Acne Vulgaris: Studies in Pathogenesis: Relative Irritancy of Free Fatty Acids From C2 to C16

TL;DR: The results suggest that the search for differences in the fatty acid spectrum of patients with acne should be focused on the C8to C14range of fatty acids.

Toxicological, bacteriocidal and fungicidal properties of fatty acids and some derivatives

TL;DR: The LD50 oral ingestion values for the common commercial fatty acids are in the range which are considered nontoxic; 24 hour primary skin irritation is considered positive for octanoic acid but negative for decanoic acids and upwards; 4 hour skin corrosivity is tested for lauric acid and lower, negative for myristic acid higher as mentioned in this paper.
Journal ArticleDOI

Determination of the response of skin to chemical agents by an in vitro procedure. II. Effects of aqueous anionic, cationic and non-ionic surfactant solutions.

TL;DR: Evidence was given to indicate that the swelling responses resulting from sodium alkyl sulfate treatment may be related to skin irritation potential and sodium dodecyl sulfate showing the greatest swelling action is known to be the most irritating to skin.

Some results of patch tests: a compilation and discussion of cutaneous reactions to about five hundred different substances, as elicited by over ten thousand tests in approximately one thousand patients

TL;DR: This paper presents a compilation of the results of patch tests made on 998 persons, who were subjected to a total of 10,198 patch tests with about 500 different substances, convinced of the value of patch Tests as an aid to diagnosis, provided proper regard is given to their inherent limitations.

Action of soap on skin

TL;DR: It seems important to determine the action of the fatty acids on the skin, as the skin has the power to neutralize externally applied alkali and the acids come into contact with the skin at a higher P h than that normal for.

TL;DR: This communication forms only a small part of the present symposium on occupational dermatoses, and it is assumed that the exposition need not (and indeed cannot) be considered alone but is to be regarded as forming an integral part ofThe entire presentation.
