Design of Quay Walls using the Finite Element Method: The importance of relieving structures in quay walls

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared two types of quay walls, namely, the anchored quay wall without relieving structure and the quaywall with relieving structures, and the results of the calculation showed that from an engineering point of view, the relief structure is more favourable.

Stress transmission in earths

D L Holl
TL;DR: In this paper, a complete solution based on the theory of ELASTICITY SATISFIES was proposed for the transmission of stress in a large-scale environment, and the results showed that three of the stress conditions were inDEPENDENT of the LAMBDA and three of them were dependent on POISSON's ratio.

Effect of Live Load Surcharge on Retaining Walls and Abutments

TL;DR: In the conventional design of retaining walls and bridge abutments, the lateral earth pressure due to live load surcharge is estimated by replacing the actual highway loads with a 600 mm layer of backfill as mentioned in this paper.
