TLDR
This paper lays the grounds for an automatic, stepwise approach for the generation of data warehouse and data mart schemes by proposing a standard format for OLAP requirement acquisition and defining an algorithm that transforms automatically the OLAP requirements into data marts modelled either as star or constellation schemes.
Abstract
The Data Warehouse design involves the definition of structures that enable an efficient access to information. The designer builds a multidimensional structure taking into account the users requirements. In fact, it is a highly complex engineering task that calls for a methodological support. This paper lays the grounds for an automatic, stepwise approach for the generation of data warehouse and data mart schemes. For this, it first proposes a standard format for OLAP requirement acquisition. Secondly, it defines an algorithm that transforms automatically the OLAP requirements into data marts modelled either as star or constellation schemes. Thirdly, it overviews our mapping rules between the data sources and the data marts schemes.

A user-driven data warehouse evolution approach for concurrent personalized analysis needs

TL;DR: A user-driven approach that enables a data warehouse schema update that considers the specific users' knowledge, which defines new aggregated data, under the form of "if-then" rules that the authors call aggregation rules is proposed.

Evolution et personnalisation des analyses dans les entrepôts de données - Une approche orientée utilisateur.

TL;DR: An original and global approach to achieve a user-driven model evolution that provides answers to personalized analysis needs and developed a prototype called WEDrik (data Warehouse Evolution Driven by Knowledge) within the Oracle 10g DBMS.

A logical approach to multidimensional databases

TL;DR: In this paper, a logical model for OLAP systems is presented, which can be used in the design of multidimensional databases, independent of any specific implementation (relational or proprietary multi-dimensional) and as such provides a clear separation between practical and conceptual aspects.

Modélisation multidimensionnelle de documents XML centrés-données

TL;DR: An automatic method for the design of data mart schemas from XML documents that has the merit of automatically identifying all multidimensional elements, classifying them in terms of their analytical potential, and tracing them to the source which facilitates the definition of ETL procedures.

Conceptual design of data warehouses from E/R schemes

TL;DR: A graphical conceptual model for data warehouses, called Dimensional Fact model, is presented and a semi-automated methodology to build it from the pre-existing entity/relationship schemes describing a database is proposed.

A Logical Approach to Multidimensional Databases

TL;DR: This paper presents MD, a logical model for OLAP systems, and shows how it can be used in the design of multidimensional databases, and presents a design methodology, to obtain an MD scheme from an operational database.

Designing data marts for data warehouses

TL;DR: This paper presents a method to support the identification and design of data marts by exploiting a goal-oriented process based on the Goal/Question/Metric paradigm developed at the University of Maryland.

starER: a conceptual model for data warehouse design

TL;DR: In this article, the starER model combines the star structure, which is dominant in data warehouses, with the semantically rich constructs of the ER model; special types of relationships have been further added to support hierarchies.

From enterprise models to dimensional models: a methodology for data warehouse and data mart design.

TL;DR: A method for developing dimensional models from traditional Entity Relationship models, which can be used to design data warehouses and data marts based on enterprise data models is described.
