Abstract
By installing asphalt strain gauges and temperature thermometers in typical pavement structures, dynamic strain data at asphalt layer bottom were collected by high speed data collection system under the action of moving vehicle load and environmental factors.Dynamic strain characteristics and its relationship with axle load and pavement temperature was analysed, the maximum strains at asphalt layer bottom of different pavement structures were compared. The prediction models for strain at asphalt layer bottom were built, and the principle of strain response at asphalt layer bottom under heavy axle loads was discovered. It shows that(1) The strain at asphalt layer bottom increases when axle load and pavement temperature increase.(2) The abovementioned strain changes when pavement structure, traffic load and environment change, and the strain has different sensitivities to axle load and temperature.Among them, the combined base structure has less tensile strain at asphalt layer bottom than that in the conventional perpetual pavement structure, and the semi-rigid pavement structure shows higher asphalt layer bottom strain than other structure under the action of heavy axle load and high pavement temperature.

Dynamic Response in ALF Aggregate Base Asphalt Pavement

TL;DR: In this paper, a full-scale asphalt pavement accelerated loading facility (ALF) was used to evaluate pavement dynamic responses accurately under truck loading, in order to evaluate the effects of various experimental factors, such as axle load, speed, et al.

Analysis of Stress and Strain for Semi-Rigid Asphalt Pavement Based on Accelerated Loading Test

TL;DR: In this paper, the correlation between pavement temperature and structural dynamic response was analyzed, and the results showed that the tensile strain of semi-rigid base layer was less affected by temperature than structural deflection.
