Water injection from 9 deg hemisphere-cone into a hypersonic airstream

TLDR
Water injection from nozzles of RAM C spacecraft models in hypersonic wind tunnels to study ion sheath penetration characteristics of spray is described in this paper, where the authors also study the effect of ion sheaths penetration characteristics.

Hypersonic Vehicle Telemetry Blackout Analysis

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigated the effects of nonequilibrium plasma sheath properties (electron concentration, plasma frequency, collision frequency, and temperature) for a range of flight conditions and vehicle design considerations.

Nonequilibrium Plasma Effects on Telemetry Considerations for Air-Breathing Hypersonic Vehicle Design

Abstract: During certain hypersonic flight regimes, shock heating of air creates a plasma sheath resulting in telemetry attenuation or blackout. The severity of the signal attenuation is dependent on vehicle configuration, flight trajectory, and transmission frequency. With the promise of air-breathing hypersonic vehicles looming on the horizon, telemetry solutions must be found to address safety considerations for flight testing (i.e., flight termination and/or catastrophe analysis). This attenuation phenomena is investigated with a focus on the nonequilibrium plasma sheath properties (electron concentration, plasma frequency, collision frequency, and temperature) for a range of flight conditions and vehicle design considerations. Trajectory and transmission frequency requirements for air-breathing hypersonic vehicle design are then addressed, with comparisons made to both shuttle orbiter and RAM-C II re-entry flights.

Multiple-Orifice Liquid Injection into Hypersonic Air Streams

TL;DR: In this paper, the effects of multiple-orifice liquid injection into hypersonic air streams were investigated and it was shown that the maximum lateral penetration from such injections increases linearly with the square root of the jet-to-freestream dynamic pressure ratio and is proportional to an equivalent orifice diameter.

Plasma Field Telemetry for Hypersonic Flight

TL;DR: In this article, an aerodynamic shaping of the vehicle leading edge is proposed to generate the desired plasma properties further downstream, allowing for telemetry at the tail of a vehicle with minimal signal attenuation.

Penetration of liquid jets into a high-velocity air stream

TL;DR: In this paper, the penetration characteristics of liquid jets directed approximately perpendicular to a high-velocity air stream for jet-nozzle-throat diameters from 00135 to 00625 inch, air stream densities from 00805 to 01365 pound per cubic foot, liquid jet velocities from 1681 to 2290 feet per second and a liquid jet density of approximately 62 pounds per cubic feet were analyzed and a correlation was developed that permitted the determination of the penetration length of the liquid jet for any operation condition within the range of variables investigated.

The aerothermopressor-a device for improving the performance of a gas-turbine power plant

TL;DR: The Aerothermopressor as discussed by the authors is a gas-dynamics device having no moving parts yet performing the function of a compressor, which exploits the possibility of raising the total pressure of a high-speed gas stream through cooling of the gas.
