I conclude that the field is likely to remain very challenging due to the people-centric nature of software engineering, since it is in essence a design task.
In this paper we argue that most studies in software engineering should give much more weight to human factors.
We don't really need software engineering in the narrow academic sense.
This paper argues that software engineering researchers should apply for resources enabling expensive and realistic software engineering experiments similar to how other researchers apply for resources for expensive software and hardware that are necessary for their research.

Thus the way forward for software metrics research lies in causal modelling (we propose using Bayesian nets), empirical software engineering, and multi-criteria decision aids.
This paper suggests some measures (utilizing some recent innovations) that can help improve software engineering education Better preparing software engineering students for professional careers.
A new software engineering educational model is proposed in order to more efficiently close the gap between industry software engineering needs and academic software engineering education.
This paper will argue that the opportunities for software engineering services in particular are limited, at least for small developing economies.

We identify a number of skills that every software engineering student and faculty should have learned, and also propose that education for future software engineers should include significant exposure to real systems, preferably through hands-on training via internships at software-producing firms.
As we shall show, the process is agile and the development framework is transferrable to other one-semester software engineering courses in a wide range of institutions.
The results indicate that universities have realized the value of including practical experiences as part of the software engineering teaching process.
