Abstract: Fourteen corrected strains previously obtained by treating three thiamine mutants of Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh. with bacterial DNA were analysed for phenotypic expression in various culture conditions and for genetic behavior in outcrosses. Three classes of plants could be recognized: 1) variegated strains phenotypically similar to viable mutants at the th-2 locus, 2) plants green at 22 °C but showing abnormal phenotypes (reversible by thiamine treatment) when grown at lower temperature (16 °C) in the presence of glucose, 3) green plants insensitive to temperature and glucose. Plants of the first class were compared to two th-2 mutants from which they differed in response to various metabolites, and, most strikingly, to a mixture of thiazole and pyrimidine. From crosses between variegated corrected plants and th-2 mutants, variegated F1 progenies were obtained, suggesting allelism.
