Abstract: COMT is found in human liver before birth and its activity increases with age until the sixth decade. There is also evidence of change in properties of the enzyme within adult age Fig. 2) . The increased amounts of metacate-cholamines and VMA excreted during the first day of life in the urine of full-term versus premature infants18 and, still more, in the urine of adults, if compared to newborn, could be attributed to the increased COMT activity with advancing age.
