TL;DR: Two different uses of interactive graphics in CAI are described, including interactive graphics that allow the student to initiate animations of physical processes and interactive block diagrams that allowThe student to learn the functional organization of complex devices.
Abstract: : Two different uses of interactive graphics in CAI are described. Interactive graphics may be used as substitutes for physical devices and operations. An example is simulation of operating on man/machine interfaces, substituting interactive graphics for controls, indicators, and indications. Interactive graphics may also be used to explicate invisible processes. Examples are interactive graphics that allow the student to initiate animations of physical processes and interactive block diagrams that allow the student to learn the functional organization of complex devices. Projects are underway to test the effectiveness of these uses.

TL;DR: The whole question of forecasting has within the last few years gained tremendous respectability, and the difficulty with any forecasting session is that it takes on very strong aspects of fortune telling...it has a very strong crystal ball aspect.
Abstract: My concern this morning is the question of how Computer Graphics are going to be used in the future. If any of you saw Stanley Kubrick's picture 2001 Space Od s~, you should have absolutely no concern about the future, because the space equipment is totally concerned with displays of many kinds. Philco-Ford produced a movie several years ago called "The Ilouse of 1999". I tried to get the film for this meeting, but they told me it was no longer available. If you view that film, it is obvious that the house of 25 or 30 years from now will simply be one continuous information display, a Computer Graphics System. Every room in the house will have a large wall size display for the purposes of education, entertainment , marketing, buying things and what have you. All of us who have essentially staked our personal fortunes, our professional careers on displays, have absolutely nothing to worry about if these things are correct. The difficulty with any forecasting session is that it takes on very strong aspects of fortune telling...it has a very strong crystal ball aspect. I think Chuck Csouri mentioned that as well, One is continually concerned with the question of are we talking about things like science fiction? If you read science fiction to any extent, you'll already come away with a lot: of ideas about how displays can be used. In the last 3 or 4 years almost every issue of Analo$ Science Figtio ~ has had at: least one article that: has somebody using a display in one way or another. You have some reasonable justification in having doubts about: too long range and too wild a forecast. So I would argue that the whole question o:f forecasting has within the last few years gained tremendous respectability. There's an organization called the World Future Society which publishes a magazine called The ]Futurists. They are literally trying to write scenarios about the future. In many areas, social, "polit:Lcal, and technological, there have been a number of very interesting books published. You may be familiar with Future Shock and The Year 2000, both of which attempt to ~ive legitimacy to forecastin~ and hopefully provide a better basis than "by ~osh"~ as to what we can expect the future to hold for us. Within the last year and half, a text book was published on technological forecasting, describing …
