TL;DR: The RESOLVE project as mentioned in this paper developed and integrated a modular processing package that can answer these science and engineering questions, such as what chemical extraction processes are the most practical and efficient, and what are the engineering challenges to be faced in this environment?
Abstract: Ever since the Clementine and Lunar Prospector mission instrument data indicated the possibility of significant concentrations of hydrogen at the lunar poles, speculation on the form and concentration of the hydrogen has been debated. Should hydrogen or water exist in usable and easily accessible concentrations, this resource could have profound implications on the design and affordability of initial and long-term human Lunar exploration hardware and systems, lunar surface operations and mobility, Earth-Moon transportation, and transportation to Mars and beyond. In particular, the ability to make propellants, life support consumables, and fuel cell reagents can significantly reduce mission cost by reducing launch mass, providing affordable pre-positioning of consumables, and enabling reusability; reduce risk by providing backup life support consumables and reduced dependence on Earth; and enable extended surface operations by providing an energy rich environment and affordable access to multiple surface targets. Even if water is present at the poles, exploration at other locations of interest on the Moon will require different methods of obtaining mission consumables, such as oxygen, and other resources of interest, such as metals and silicon. President Bush’s announcement in January 2004 for the United States to return to the Moon and to further explore Mars and beyond ‘...including use of lunar and other space resources to support sustained human exploration...’ has placed new emphasis on fundamental science questions, such as “What resources are available on the Moon, where are they, and in what form?” as well as critical engineering questions, such as “How will we mine these resources, what chemical extraction processes are the most practical and efficient, and what are the engineering challenges to be faced in this environment?” The environment in the permanently shadowed regions at the poles is especially challenging due to the extremely low temperature (<80 K) and the unknown physical properties and content of trapped gases in the regolith and ice (if present). The goal of the Regolith & Environment Science and Oxygen & Lunar Volatile Extraction (RESOLVE) project is to develop and integrate a modular processing package that can answer these science and engineering questions. The RESOLVE project is being performed by a small team consisting of lunar resource, flight hardware, terrestrial mining, and ISRU processing experts from NASA, JPL, academia, and industry. The project officially started at the end of January, 2005, and this paper will outline the project’s development objectives and approach, and describe the instruments, processes, and systems that are being evaluated in the 1 year, leading to development and testing of a prototype under simulated lunar polar environmental conditions by the 4 year. INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND INFORMATION Many studies have shown that the ability to process and refine materials that have been extracted and separated from in-situ resources into useful products, known as In-Situ Resource Utilization (ISRU), can have a substantial impact on individual missions and mission architecture concepts [1, 2, 3, . In particular, the ability to make propellants, life support consumables, and fuel cell reagents can significantly reduce mission cost by reducing launch mass and enabling reusability; reduce risk by providing backup life support consumables and reduced dependence on Earth; and enable extended surface operations by providing an energy rich environment and affordable access to multiple

TL;DR: In this paper, an assessment regarding the weldability of a 40 mm thick, supermartensitic stainless steel conforming to prEN 10088-2: X1CrNiMoCu1 2-5-2, which still profits from a lot of interest within the oil and gas industry especially for flow lines and process equipment of mild sour gas, was placed on the low-temperature fracture behaviour of weldments made with up-to-date matching consumables applicable for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, slug catchers, etc.
Abstract: This paper describes the assessment regarding the weldability of a 40 mm thick, supermartensitic stainless steel conforming to prEN 10088-2: X1CrNiMoCu1 2-5–2, which still profits from a lot of interest within the oil and gas industry especially for flow lines and process equipment of mild sour gas [1]. The emphasis in this study was placed on the low-temperature fracture behaviour of weldments made with up-to-date matching consumables applicable for pressure vessels, heat exchangers, slug catchers, etc. The weldability was evaluated by studying the influence on material properties of various thermal weld cycles, eventually followed by a post weld heat treatment (PWHT), typical for large pressure vessels where heat treatments very often are imposed by current codes. The investigation has shown, because of its low carbon, nitrogen and sulphur content, that the 1,5 Mo steel grade exhibits an adequate weldability and a superior response to PWHT. A close control of chemical composition and manufacturing route though is necessary to produce an economically attractive, weldable 13 Cr stainless steel having high strength in combination with satisfactory toughness and corrosion resistance. Submerged arc and gas metal arc welds, both adapted for longitudinal and circumferential welding, have been realised with consumables (over)matching in composition with the base metal. Also shielded metal arc welding, still the most widely used process for repairing, has been investigated. Several trials have been executed on all weldments to optimise the heat treatment. All weldments were assessed by performing standard mechanical testing, metallographic examinations, impact and CTOD fracture toughness testing and wide plate tests. Correlations between small and large scale test behaviour have permitted to advise the most appropriate post weld heat treatment for such thick supermartensitic stainless steel weldments and will allow formulating a first proposal for impact and/or CTOD fracture toughness requirements.

Abstract: In this paper, it is verified that the consumption of steel for welded structures in China in 2004 has exceeded 100 million tons, which makes China the world number one welding manufacture country. Since the beginning of the reforming and opening policy in China, many important and large welded structures have been made and welding has played an indispensable role in the development of national economy. The production and application of welding consumables, the distribution of welding robots, the education and training of welding professional are analyzed. Although the yield of welding consumables and welding wires have been expanded rapidly and China has become the largest welding consumables production and consumption country, the rate of manual welding electrodes is still beyond 75%, the welding mechanization and automation rate is around 35% and the ratio between the annual yield of welding consumables and steel is up to 0.77%. These problems should be solved in a shorter time. According to the development trend of welding technology, the applications of welding robot system, fully digital welding power sources, laser and laser hybrid welding, friction stir welding as well as high efficient welding processes should be emphasized in China’s shipbuilding industry. Our international competition strength should be improved by attracting excellent welding professional to the production front and improving the cooperation between governments, enterprises, universities and research institutes as well as with our predominance of high quality, high efficiency and low production costs.

Abstract: Quantitative evaluation was performed on the microstructure of flux-cored arc(FCA) weld metal using a method blown as IIW scheme. It was mainly intended to figure out any practical difficulties in applying this method and also to provide the consumable makers with basic guide line in developing FCA welding consumables far better properties. Assessment of the experimental results showed IIW scheme was quite reliable in the low heat input range where the acicular ferrite was a major constituent. However, in the high heat input range, some scatter was noticed as the other phases like grain boundary ferrite and Widmansttaten ferrite become dominant. It implies that the accuracy of IIW scheme depends on the faction of microstructural constituents and it become worse as the fraction of latter two phases increases. This tendency was discussed in terms of the characteristics of those two phases. In addition, base line microstructure of rutile type FCA weld metal was addressed for developing new FCA welding consumables intended for higher heat input welding.

TL;DR: In this article, when the light source lamp of a projector reaches its life expectancy, the user of the projector 100 accesses the projector by using a client PC 200 and acquires an accumulated operating time of the light-source lamp.
Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide new consumables at lower prices than normal prices, when the consumables have reached the lifetime earlier than the average. SOLUTION: When the light source lamp of a projector 100 reaches its life expectancy, the user of the projector 100 accesses the projector 100 by using a client PC 200 and acquires an accumulated operating time of the light source lamp. Then, the client PC 200 transmits the accumulated operating time to a server 300 for trading the consumables. The server 300 for trading the consumables obtains charges for the light source lamp in accordance with the accumulated operating time thus received. At this time, the charges are obtained so that they become less expensive than the regular charges if the received accumulated operating time is shorter than the standard accumulated operating time. The charges thus obtained are notified to the client PC 200. The client PC 200 displays the notified charges to a CRT or the like. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI
