TL;DR: In this paper , Pandey et al. analyzed the studies published in the International Journal of Enhanced Research in Educational Development (IJERED) in the past ten years and found that profoundness and frequency of a topic and complete picture of a field played a role to the development of knowledge production systems and methods.
Abstract: This study aims to analyze, the studies published in the International Journal of Enhanced Research in Educational Development (IJERED) in the past ten years. It is a systematic assessment of descriptive literature. The data was collected through document analysis and comparison, and analyzed through content analysis. Frequencies and possibilities of the statistics had been calculated. As IJERED is an open access journal, it is expected that the results of this analysis will give us some traces about the educational field in India. The main focus of this study was on the problems in Indian education over the past ten years. Educational research should be examined from time to time (Pandey, 2004). This study discloses the profoundness and frequency of a topic and complete picture of a field and play a role to the development of knowledge production systems and methods.

Abstract: The chapter gives an overview on theoretical background and specific techniques of qualitative content analysis. Its role in qualitative research is described, central elements of definition introduced, and basic characteristics discussed. The importance for educational research is outlined, and the historical and methodological background described. We present two basic procedures, inductive category formation and deductive category assignment, by step models and by an example from educational research. Differences to other approaches to qualitative content analysis are worked out. An open access software program especially for our techniques of qualitative content analysis is presented.

TL;DR: The authors investigated the extent to which the NSSI Stigma framework can account for individuals' self-injury stigma experiences using a directed content analysis and found that participants described stigma experiences within friendships, families, schools, and workplaces.
Abstract: ABSTRACT Despite significant impacts to mental health and support-seeking, non-suicidal self-injury (NSSI) stigma remains under-studied and poorly understood. Recently, the NSSI Stigma Framework was proposed, conceptualizing NSSI stigma as comprising six constructs (origin, concealability, course, peril, aesthetics, disruptiveness) that manifest across four perspectives (public, self, anticipated, enacted). The present study investigated the extent to which this framework can account for individuals’ NSSI stigma experiences using a directed content analysis. Written responses from 99 university undergraduates (M age = 21.5, SD = 3.7; 83.8% female) generated 731 data units for analysis, of which 299 (40.9%) were coded. Results demonstrated support for the public and enacted perspectives, with participants describing stigma experiences within friendships, families, schools, and workplaces. Data pointed to both direct and indirect experiences of public stigma, suggesting a more nuanced understanding of this perspective is required. While there was sufficient support for a majority of elements, more work is needed to verify the applicability of the self and anticipated perspectives. Our findings contribute to a growing body of research investigating NSSI stigma, and provide preliminary support for the utility of the NSSI Stigma Framework in identifying multiple facets of NSSI stigma. Implications for intervention and future research are discussed.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors examined the prevalence of Instagram posts featuring ultra-processed products targeted at adolescents in Uruguay and hence investigated the frequency of such posts among a vulnerable consumer segment in a country that cannot be classified as WEIRD (i.e., Western, educated, industrialized, rich and democratic).
Abstract: Purpose The current research aimed to examine the prevalence of Instagram posts featuring ultra-processed products targeted at adolescents in Uruguay and hence investigate the frequency of such posts among a vulnerable consumer segment in a country that cannot be classified as WEIRD (i.e. Western, educated, industrialized, rich and democratic). Design/methodology/approach The study relied on a cross-sectional content analysis. A total of 2,014 Instagram posts promoting ultraprocessed products or brands commercializing such products, generated by 118 Instagram accounts between August 15th, 2020, and February 15th, 2021, were analyzed. Nine indicators of food marketing targeted at adolescents were selected to identify posts targeted at this age segment. Inductive coding was used to describe the content of the posts. Descriptive statistics and generalized linear models were used to analyze the data. Findings In total, 17.6% of the posts were identified as targeted at adolescents. Graphic design and adolescent language were the most prevalent indicators of marketing targeted at adolescents, followed by explicit references to adolescents or young adults and memes. Posts identified as targeted at adolescents mainly promoted snacks and discretionary foods. Differences in the content of posts identified as targeted and not targeted at adolescents were observed. Research limitations/implications The analysis was restricted to one social media platform in one country during a limited period of time, which limits the generalizability of the findings to other media platforms, samples and settings. Social implications Results stress the need to implement digital food marketing regulations to reduce exposure of adolescents to the deleterious effects of stemming from marketing of unhealthy foods and provide empirical evidence to inform their development. Originality/value The study breaks new ground by analyzing the prevalence and exploring the characteristics and content of Instagram posts promoting ultra-processed products to adolescents in an under-researched geographic area of the world.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors analyzed online news articles reporting adherence to COVID-19 health and safety protocols in the Philippines and three main themes emerged: (a) adherence, (b) non-adherence, and (c) partial adherence.
Abstract: OBJECTIVES Globally, adherence to COVID-19 health and safety protocols played a crucial role in preventing the spread of the virus. Thus, this study analyzed online news articles reporting adherence to COVID-19 health and safety protocols in the Philippines. DESIGN Manifest content analysis. SAMPLE News articles (n = 192) from three major online news portals in the Philippines. MEASUREMENT Published online news articles were collected during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic (March 2020 to March 2021). Bengtsson's content analysis approach was used to analyze the data. Member-checking and intercoder reliability validated the study's results. RESULTS Three main themes emerged: (a) adherence, (b) non-adherence, and (c) partial adherence. The subthemes were labeled who, what, when, where, and why. The same behavior, social distancing, was the most adhered to and non-adhered COVID-19 health protocol. This protocol has the highest occurrences in political protest, religious-related activities, and self-initiated quarantine. Leisure activities both showed non-adherence and partial adherence. CONCLUSIONS Online news articles depicted Filipinos' adherence to health and safety protocols. Their adherence was primarily determined by one's group or community, social norms, and values. The government and its public health agencies should strengthen current efforts and continuously re-evaluate existing policies to modify ineffective and confusing safety health protocols.

TL;DR: The conceptual model for Professional Identity in Nursing (PIINN) as mentioned in this paper is a model for professional identity in nursing that encourages collaboration, accountability, and sustainability within the profession and society.
Abstract: The purpose of this initiative was to define the development, verification, and evolution of the conceptual model for Professional Identity in Nursing. This action research design occurred over two phases, utilizing observations, a modified Norris process for model development, and focus groups. Analysis consisted of conventional content analysis and the Fawcett method for conceptual model analysis and evaluation. The model was modified, and results are presented based on the model’s philosophical underpinnings, content, socialness, and evolution. The model resonates with nurses both in the United States and internationally. The interdependency shown in the model encourages collaboration, accountability, and sustainability within the profession and society.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors identify the first synthetic media outlets already operating, describe how these newsrooms without journalists work, and better understand the type of content they produce, and find out whether these are isolated and ephemeral operations or if, on the contrary, they mark the beginning of a trend toward journalism without the direct intervention of journalists.
Abstract: The boom in artificial intelligence and automated technology in the journalistic profession has given rise to what are called synthetic media (Crusafon, 2022), media outlets that produce and publish texts, audio, videos, and other news content through processes executed solely by algorithms, without any intervention from journalists. This research has several objectives: to identify the first synthetic media outlets already operating, to describe how these newsrooms without journalists work, to better understand the type of content they produce, and to find out whether these are isolated and ephemeral operations or if, on the contrary, they mark the beginning of a trend toward journalism without the direct intervention of journalists. To this end, we have used an exploratory methodology, enabling us to identify four synthetic media outlets, which have been taken as an analysis sample: JX Press Corp (Japan); Reuters News Tracer (United Kingdom), News Republic (France), and Videre AI (Spain). An analysis of the news content on each project’s web pages was combined with in-depth semistructured interviews with the heads of technology and communication of the three European ventures. The Japanese initiative has no human staff, so its chatbot was the only way to obtain information. The purpose was to learn about the initiatives’ news production process, their impact on the journalistic profession, and their viability. This analysis helps demonstrate that the journalistic world’s reliance on artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly evident and that communication agencies are the first companies to invest in developing and distributing synthetic content to benchmark media. These initiatives, although still limited, are the most recent step in the process of gradually integrating artificial intelligence into news production.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper constructed a three-dimensional analytical framework and used content analysis to quantitatively analyze scientific data management policy texts, extending the research perspective and research content in the field of scientific Data Management.
Abstract: PurposeThis paper aims to understand the current development situation of scientific data management policy in China, analyze the content structure of the policy and provide a theoretical basis for the improvement and optimization of the policy system.Design/methodology/approachChina's scientific data management policies were obtained through various channels such as searching government websites and policy and legal database, and 209 policies were finally identified as the sample for analysis after being screened and integrated. A three-dimensional framework was constructed based on the perspective of policy tools, combining stakeholder and lifecycle theories. And the content of policy texts was coded and quantitatively analyzed according to this framework.FindingsChina's scientific data management policies can be divided into four stages according to the time sequence: infancy, preliminary exploration, comprehensive promotion and key implementation. The policies use a combination of three types of policy tools: supply-side, environmental-side and demand-side, involving multiple stakeholders and covering all stages of the lifecycle. But policy tools and their application to stakeholders and lifecycle stages are imbalanced. The development of future scientific data management policy should strengthen the balance of policy tools, promote the participation of multiple subjects and focus on the supervision of the whole lifecycle.Originality/valueThis paper constructs a three-dimensional analytical framework and uses content analysis to quantitatively analyze scientific data management policy texts, extending the research perspective and research content in the field of scientific data management. The study identifies policy focuses and proposes several strategies that will help optimize the scientific data management policy.

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors used CBCA to assist with missing persons cases with a temporal method (BSA) and found that two individual markers occurred at a high frequency across all four groups (the guilty and innocent statements of both case types); however, differences were noted in the sequences based on an individual's ability to provide experiential details.
Abstract: Purpose When investigating missing persons cases, witness and suspect statements are often the only available evidence to investigators. As such, forensic linguistics can be useful to police when seeking information from individuals during investigative interviews. The presumption of innocence must be maintained in an investigation, and therefore this study aims to use a method focused on veracity detection, rather than the majority of studies using deception detection approaches. Design/methodology/approach The current research uses criteria-based content analysis (CBCA), a method that has been applied to a variety of criminal cases. Real-world statements of individuals convicted or found innocent of their involvement in missing persons cases were used in the analyses. Additionally, behaviour sequence analysis (BSA) was used to map language patterns within individuals’ statements. Findings Results indicated that two individual markers occurred at a high frequency across all four groups (the guilty and innocent statements of both case types); however, differences were noted in the sequences based on an individual’s ability to provide experiential details. Research limitations/implications The current research contributes to the growing literature that aims to test CBCA in adult samples across crimes that do not pertain to sexual abuse, in addition to aiding researchers and practitioners to understand better the linguistic differences that occur in missing persons cases. Originality/value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, this type of research, using CBCA to assist with missing person's cases with a temporal method (BSA), has never before been tested. BSA has previously been used in forensic linguistics, and shown support for the method. The current research builds on this in terms of missing persons cases.

TL;DR: In this paper , a mixed method was employed, combining: social media analysis (SNA) methodology executed by monitoring Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts and their publications (300 posts with the highest number of likes).
Abstract: Social networking sites are a new ecosystem of social relations in which adolescents follow public figures or influencers: instagrammers, tweeters and youtubers. Their behaviour in the posts they publish become a trend and a model for the new generations. In order to explore these behaviours and their consequences, it is useful to study the behaviour of the 10 instagramers, 10 tweeters and 10 youtubers with the largest number of followers in the world. A mixed method was employed, combining: social media analysis (SNA) methodology executed by monitoring Twitter, Instagram and YouTube accounts and their publications (300 posts with the highest number of likes). The FanapageKarma tool was used to capture data by applying data mining techniques. Subsequently, sentiment analysis was performed using Meaning Cloud software, determining sentiment polarity analysis quantitatively. Finally, a semantic analysis of the content was performed using Nvivo. The results of multi-regression and sentiment’s analysis show clear differences between social networking sites. Twitter is a space for critical analysis of information and social movements, especially climate change. In this space adolescents defend their values and ideology. Instagram is a showcase for fashion and beauty, where brands support an idealised and desirable lifestyle. YouTube is a space for entertainment and comedy. It concludes that despite their differences there is one univocal feature, the effort of influencers to capture audiences and establish parasocial relationships.

TL;DR: In this article , a systematic review of 48 research articles on neighbourhood sustainability assessment tools (NSATs) in cities of the Global South, conducted and reported using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement, is presented.
Abstract: PurposeSeveral initiatives have taken part in the sustainability assessment tools, especially on the neighbourhood scale. These tools have been developed as neighbourhood sustainability assessment tools (NSATs) in global and local settings. Despite the widespread use of NSATs over the last two decades, research on NSATs in Global South cities is currently limited. This review article synthesizes literature themes and provides research priorities for NSATs.Design/methodology/approachThis paper presents a systematic review of 48 research articles on NSATs in cities of the Global South, conducted and reported using the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. A thematic synthesis of 18 articles was reviewed using content analysis to provide a thematic classification and research priorities that outline approaches and actions for implementation.FindingsThe results revealed five themes of NSATs for research tackling cities in the Global South, with one dominant theme related to case study-based frameworks and tools. The findings indicate a high level of affiliation contribution and research content focus within the Asian continent compared to the African continent and MENA region.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the bibliometric analysis of where the current body of research stands in NSATs. The added value highlights research priorities based on themes, spatial regions and tools.

TL;DR: In Hong Kong, the Education Bureau (EDB) is responsible for the quality assurance of kindergarten education services, and inspectors regularly conduct school visits to monitor kindergartens' performance and publish a Quality Review (QR) report for each kindergarten as discussed by the authors .
Abstract: In Hong Kong, the Education Bureau (EDB) is responsible for the quality assurance of kindergarten education services. EDB inspectors regularly conduct school visits to monitor kindergartens’ performance and publish a Quality Review (QR) report for each kindergarten. Given the limited research on pedagogical practices pertaining to physical activities in Hong Kong kindergartens, the current study analyzes the content concerning this learning area in the QR reports. We analyzed 164 QR reports (published between 2017 and 2020) according to four analytic dimensions: (1) Overall presence of content pertaining to physical activities; (2) References to specific forms of physical activities; (3) Positive feedback; and (4) Negative feedback and recommendations. The presence of physical activities in the QR reports was found to be low (5% on average). EDB inspectors alluded to physical activities generically, not specifying the motor skill(s) at hand. Both positive and negative feedback focused primarily on matters pertaining to the time of exposure to physical activities and teachers’ pedagogical quality. Our evidence suggests the existence of potential gaps between Hong Kong’s kindergarten policies and actual physical activity practices. Further professional development seems necessary to strengthen both teachers’ pedagogies and inspectors’ understandings of physical activities.

TL;DR: The authors examined the frequency of moral content in three contexts, using three methods: (a) Participants' subjective frequency estimates (N = 581), (b) Human content analysis of unobtrusively recorded in-person interactions ( N = 542 participants; n = 50,961 observations); and (c) Computational content analysis on Facebook posts (N= 3822 participants; N = 111,886 observations).
Abstract: Abstract Given its centrality in scholarly and popular discourse, morality should be expected to figure prominently in everyday talk. We test this expectation by examining the frequency of moral content in three contexts, using three methods: (a) Participants’ subjective frequency estimates ( N = 581); (b) Human content analysis of unobtrusively recorded in-person interactions ( N = 542 participants; n = 50,961 observations); and (c) Computational content analysis of Facebook posts ( N = 3822 participants; n = 111,886 observations). In their self-reports, participants estimated that 21.5% of their interactions touched on morality (Study 1), but objectively, only 4.7% of recorded conversational samples (Study 2) and 2.2% of Facebook posts (Study 3) contained moral content. Collectively, these findings suggest that morality may be far less prominent in everyday life than scholarly and popular discourse, and laypeople, presume.

TL;DR: The National Health Service Digital Diabetes Prevention Programme (NHS-DDPP) is a behavioural intervention for adults in England at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, rolled out nationally via independent providers and their digital partners as mentioned in this paper .
Abstract: The National Health Service Digital Diabetes Prevention Programme (NHS-DDPP) is a behavioural intervention for adults in England at risk of developing Type 2 diabetes, rolled out nationally via independent providers and their digital partners. The NHS England programme specification indicated 19 behaviour change techniques (BCTs) which should be present in the intervention, including BCTs to support self-regulation. A previous evaluation of the face-to-face service found an under-delivery of some self-regulatory BCTs. This study assessed whether those 19 BCTs were offered in the different interventions delivered by four digital providers. A cross-sectional analysis of BCT content in the NHS-DDPP was elicited from the following sources: (a) online platforms (e.g. apps), (b) educational materials, and (c) health coaching (assessed via interviews with health coaches and audio-recorded telephone consultations). All materials were coded using the Behaviour Change Technique Taxonomy v1. A total of 17, 15, 15 and 14 of the 19 specified BCTs were identified across the four digital provider programmes. A mean proportion of 43% of specified BCTs were present via providers' apps, 74% via educational materials, and 62% via health coaching. An additional 41 BCTs were included in at least one of the four providers' programmes. Fidelity of BCT content in the NHS-DDPP was better than previously identified for the face-to-face DPP service. However, BCTs were offered via multiple modalities, thus the degree to which users engage with the modalities will impact on their exposure to BCTs and likely effectiveness of the digital programme.

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors present a systematic literature review of creative cluster research (CCR), with the aim of exploring the state of the art in the field, pointing out some important limitations, and outlining a future research agenda.
Abstract: The notion of creative clusters has become the focus of a growing number of policy initiatives aimed at revitalizing economies by means of creativity. However, despite their prominence in policy discourse, creative clusters are still a ‘fuzzy’ concept, defined and treated differently in different strands of research. To address these disparities, this paper presents a systematic literature review of creative cluster research (CCR), with the aim of: (1) exploring the state of the art in the field, (2) pointing out some important limitations, and (3) outlining a future research agenda. A total of 355 articles published between 1986 and 2019 were analysed, drawing upon a combination of manual coding, bibliometric analysis, and text mining techniques. This multi-method approach allowed us to provide both a meta-analysis of CCR and an exploration of its thematic content. In so doing, our paper contributes to a comprehensive understanding of how creative clusters have been studied over time, both broadly and in relation to different creative sectors and geographical contexts. Moreover, through the identification of research gaps and boundaries of knowledge in the field, it points to key methodological and conceptual development issues to be addressed in future studies.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors provide a systematic literature review using bibliometric analysis techniques and content analysis to provide a map of research produced between 2009 and 2021, identifying theoretical frameworks, current research trends, and patterns in this field.
Abstract: Abstract The use of social media in higher education has been demonstrated in a number of studies to be an attractive and contemporary method of teaching and learning. However, further research and investigation are required in order to align social media's pedagogical benefits with the theoretical perspectives that inform educational practices. It is the objective of this study to provide a systematic literature review using bibliometric analysis techniques and content analysis to provide a map of research produced between 2009 and 2021. This study aims to identify theoretical frameworks, current research trends, and patterns in this field. A total of 772 publications were analysed using bibliometric methodology, while a subset of 55 publications were analysed using content analysis. As indicated by the results, there is still a growing interest in this area of research, with recent studies still focusing on attitudes towards the use of social media in teaching and learning. According to the content analysis, technology acceptance theories and learning theories are the most commonly used reference theories. This field has yet to elaborate on pedagogical theory, and there is a tendency to rely primarily on technology acceptance models rather than pedagogical models. A discussion of future practice and research implications is also provided.

TL;DR: This paper examined how the Brazilian media covered false and misleading claims made by President Jair Bolsonaro in the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic and found that 60.36% of the content reproduced the president's discourse without acknowledging it was a lie or an error, while 26.13% presented elements of contextualization.
Abstract: This paper examines how the Brazilian media covered false and misleading claims made by President Jair Bolsonaro in the first year of the Covid-19 pandemic. To do so, we extracted titles from 111 news articles connected to twenty-one disinformation episodes. The texts were published by six news organizations, and we classified them into three categories using content analysis: contextualization, correction, and reproduction. Among our findings, we have discovered that 60.36% of the content reproduced the president's discourse without acknowledging it was a lie or an error, while 26.13% presented elements of contextualization. Only 13.51% of titles corrected Bolsonaro’s false or misleading claims. The results indicate that legacy and digital-native news organizations mostly failed to correct the Brazilian president’s errors and lies, evoking questions about ethics and transparency. Consequentially, journalism may increase the noise in an already polluted and high-choice online media environment if such issues are left unaddressed.

TL;DR: In this paper , a systematic literature review is presented taking into account 16 studies published between 2015 and 2021 with the purpose of analyzing the development of TPACK in teachers, in research that uses the Lesson Study as an intervention strategy.
Abstract: A systematic review is presented with the purpose of exploring the trends associated with the development of technological pedagogical content knowledge (TPACK) from Lesson Study. In the 21st century, technology established a complex and necessary relationship with different sectors of society, enabling different conceptual and practical models for the incorporation of technologies in teaching. TPACK was one of the most outstanding. In this perspective, a systematic literature review is presented taking into account 16 studies published between 2015 and 2021 with the purpose of analyzing the development of TPACK in teachers, in research that uses the Lesson Study (LS) as an intervention strategy. The review was carried out in April 2022 using the following databases: Scopus, Web of Science, Spinger Link, Proquest Central, Science Direct, Redalyc, Dialnet and Scielo. The phases of identification, screening, selection and inclusion of the flowchart of the PRISMA guide were applied. The results reveal that the LS constitutes a theoretical and practical framework that provides contextualized opportunities to work on the training needs and interests of teachers, promoting self-assessment and the construction of new conceptions about teaching with technologies. Therefore, the theoretical discussion reveals that the integrative vision of TPACK is the perspective that predominates the development of this type of research.

TL;DR: In this paper , a qualitative directed content analysis study was carried out with 24 NICU physicians and nurses working in Tehran, Iran, where the data was collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and was analyzed using the deductive approach.
Abstract: Background Safety culture, as an important and influential component of neonatal safety, can lay the ground for the provision of professional and quality care by creating a positive insight among workers. The present study aimed to explain the concept of safety culture and its dimensions from the perspective of the nurses and the physicians working in neonatal intensive care units (NICUs). Methods This qualitative directed content analysis study was carried out with 24 NICU physicians and nurses working in Tehran, Iran. These multicenter participants were selected through purposive sampling with maximum diversity in terms of demographic characteristics. The data was collected through in-depth semi-structured interviews and was analyzed using the deductive approach. The COREQ checklist was used for the comprehensive report of this study. Results The concept of patient safety culture in NICUs included achieving professional development, constructive interactions, organizational supportive climate, management's commitment to neonatal safety, planning and implementation of neonatal developmental care, which are extracted from 5 main categories, 10 generic categories and 21 sub-categories. Conclusion The dimensions of safety culture include procedures that, if promoted, could improve neonatal safety, reducing harm to neonates' health while expending less financial and human resources. Gaining knowledge of the status of these dimensions in wards and hospitals can give a purposeful direction to promote neonate health and policymaking.

TL;DR: In this paper , the authors quantify and map academic literature of ESG from a bibliometric perspective and provide a comprehensive review of the recent literature published in the high-rated journal articles.
Abstract: PurposeThis study aimed to quantify and map academic literature of ESG from a bibliometric perspective and to provide a comprehensive review of the recent literature published in the high-rated journal articles.Design/methodology/approachThe study analyzed 867 and 388 documents from Scopus and Web of Science (WoS) data respectively using bibliometric analysis. Biblioshiny and VOSviewer software was used for performance analysis and science mapping respectively. Further, manual content analysis of the 190 research articles published in the last five years was conducted.FindingsThe results demonstrate that ESG is an emerging domain in the field of sustainable finance as the number of publications and total citations are showing an upward trend. The top two journals in terms of productivity are the Journal of Sustainable Finance and Investment and Business Strategy and the Environment. The highest number of publications are from the United States and George Serafeim is the most influential author in the ESG domain. TL;DR: In this article , the content of 9,995 citations from 6,706 papers indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection, which cite papers published in so-called "predatory" (or questionable) journals was analyzed.
Abstract: Abstract This study uses content-based citation analysis to move beyond the simplified classification of predatory journals. We present that, when we analyze papers not only in terms of the quantity of their citations but also the content of these citations, we are able to show the various roles played by papers published in journals accused of being predatory. To accomplish this, we analyzed the content of 9,995 citances (i.e., citation sentences) from 6,706 papers indexed in the Web of Science Core Collection, which cites papers published in so-called “predatory” (or questionable) journals. The analysis revealed that the vast majority of such citances are neutral (97.3%), and negative citations of articles published in the analyzed journals are almost completely nonexistent (0.8%). Moreover, the analysis revealed that the most frequently mentioned countries in the citances are India, Pakistan, and Iran, with mentions of Western countries being rare. This highlights a geopolitical bias and shows the usefulness of looking at such journals as mislocated centers of scholarly communication. The analyzed journals provide regional data prevalent for mainstream scholarly discussions, and the idea of predatory publishing hides geopolitical inequalities in global scholarly publishing. Our findings also contribute to the further development of content-based citation analysis.

TL;DR: In this article , a comparative study of official diplomatic speeches regarding COVID-19, released by spokespersons for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and documents from the United States Department of State China Archive is presented.
Abstract: This is a comparative study of official diplomatic speeches regarding COVID-19, released by spokespersons for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and documents from the United States Department of State China Archive. It explores how these speeches and documents reflect the US–China relations and the conduct of policies surrounding digital media in the two countries. We focus on the period from the start of the Wuhan lockdown, 20 January 2020, to the city’s reopening on 8 April, and use several forms of content analysis to analyse the documents: Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) topic modelling, sentiment network analysis and word clouds. We argue that the diplomatic relationship and political ideologies adopted by different political and media systems can have a major impact upon media policy implementation and guidance.
