Abstract: Zederone, a sesquiterpenoid possessing the germacrane skeleton isolated from Curcuma zedoaria(Zingiberaceae), has been shown to adopt a preferred conformation (A) mainly on the basis of 1H n.m.r. and u.v. spectral evidence. A c.d. study has established the absolute configuration (V) and has shown that change in conformation is severely restricted.
