Abstract: Education is highlighted as having a key role in advancing the use of passive solar energy in building design. The different requirements of undergraduate and mid-career education are considered and certain pioneering work is reported. Problems arise in integrating technological issues in the design process. Support already provided throughout Europe is described, specifically two architectural competitions and a series of professional workshops. It is concluded that some progress is being made in providing the necessary support to building designers to implement passive solar techniques in the European building industry.
