TL;DR: In this paper, a method of fabricating an optical fiber connector using a transfer molding process employing a precision die whose interior surface defines a frustum for forming the mating surface of the connector is disclosed.
Abstract: A method of fabricating an optical fiber connector is disclosed using a transfer molding process employing a precision die whose interior surface defines a frustum for forming the mating surface of the connector The fiber is inserted through the mold cavity and extends through an aperture in the end surface of the frustum and through an annulus disposed outside of the mold cavity immediately adjacent to the aperture At the transfer molding temperature, the annulus expands inward radially, simultaneously sealing the aperture and centering the fiber After curing, the excess fiber is removed, and a flexible, dome-shaped contacting member is formed over the fiber end

TL;DR: In this paper, a three-bladed impeller is used to generate a frustum of a cone with the larger end of the cone frustum being generated by the leading edges of the impeller blades.
Abstract: An apparatus for accepting unthrashed material that is being fed axially into the cylinder of an axially flow combine. The apparatus includes a three bladed impeller that when rotated generates a frustum of a cone with the larger end of the cone frustum being generated by the leading edges of the impeller blades. The leading edge of each impeller blade being swept back such that the outermost portion of the leading edge of the impeller blade trails a line radiating from the point on the rotor axis where the impeller blade originates from.

TL;DR: In this paper, a flow passage having a restriction is connected between a fluid inlet and outlet, and a frustum is disposed in the flow passage between the inlet, and an apex facing toward the restriction.
Abstract: A flow passage having a restriction is connected between a fluid inlet and outlet. A frustum is disposed in the flow passage between the inlet and the restriction. The frustum has a base facing away from the restriction, and an apex facing toward the restriction. The inlet is transverse to the axis of the flow passage and positioned so the base and a portion only of the frustum are directly exposed to the inlet. The frustum is mounted on a rod extending through the flow passage. In one embodiment, a sphere is mounted on the end of the rod beyond the outlet. The rod may be hollow and have holes near the restriction for the purpose of liquid feed.

TL;DR: In this article, the shape of a pyramid frustum for the flow of powder in suspension in a carrier gas is of increasing width and decreasing height in the downstream direction, the angle of inclination being of increasing value from the upstream end to the downstream end.
Abstract: A duct having the shape of a pyramid frustum for the flow of powder in suspension in a carrier gas is of increasing width and decreasing height in the downstream direction. The duct has a solid end-wall and a wall provided with an opening between the open upstream base joined to a supply pipe and a solid portion joined to the open downstream base so as to form a spray-discharge nozzle. The device comprises a screen having holes for the discharge of carrier gas and a grid formed by flat partitions. Inclined deflectors extend transversely within the duct in the vicinity of the opening, the angle of inclination being of increasing value from the upstream end to the downstream end.

Abstract: : A 180 sector of the first stage stationary inlet nozzle of the AiResearch TFE-731-2 engine was instrumented with thin-film heat-transfer gages and experiments were performed to obtain detailed heat-transfer rate distributions. It is shown that the experimental apparatus can potentially be used to study total-pressure losses in cascades. The experimental apparatus consists of a helium-driven shock tube as a short-duration source of high-temperature high-pressure gas, driving a nozzle test-section device mounted near the exit of a primary shock-tunnel receiver tank. The nozzle test-section device consists of a forward transition section with a circular opening facing the supersonic primary nozzle flow and with the external shape of a frustum of a cone. Internal contouring is provided to transform the circular-section subsonic intake flow into one filling approximately a 180 annular segment having a geometry approximating that of the entrance to the turbine stator stage in a turbojet. Detailed measurements of static pressure in the test section and heat-transfer rate on the stator sector have been obtained and are reported herein. (Author)

TL;DR: In this paper, a cone bobbin is used to make yarn packages and a reserve winding can be formed on this bottom end portion of the bobbin by coaxially extending the bottom end toward the outside.
Abstract: Disclosed is a cone bobbin utilized for making a yarn package thereon. The bobbin is provided with a main portion having a shape of a frustum of a cone, whereon the yarn package can be formed. From the bottom end of the main portion, a cylindrical bottom end portion of the bobbin is coaxially extended toward the outside, and a reserve winding can be formed on this bottom end portion.
