TL;DR: In this article, a gear pump is described where the shafts of at least a pair of intermeshing gears are rotatably supported in bushings each with an axially extended lubrication groove formed in the bore of the bushing.
Abstract: A gear pump is disclosed wherein the shafts of at least a pair of intermeshing gears are rotatably supported in bushings each with an axially extended lubrication groove formed in the bore of the bushing, one end of the lubrication groove being communicated through a low pressure chamber defined in the inner end face of the bushing with a portion of a suction port located adjacent to the root or dedendum circle of the gear while the other end of the lubrication groove being communicated with the suction port through a hole extended through the bushing or casing or notch formed therein, whereby part of the liquid drawn through the suction port upon rotation of the intermeshing gears is forced into the pressure chamber because of the fact that the liquid drawn into each tooth space of the gear is imparted with the impact speed directed in the radial direction of the tooth space due to the difference between the speed with which the liquid is drawn into the gear pump and the rotational speed of the intermeshing gears, and the liquid is circulated from the low pressure chamber through the lubrication groove, thereby lubricating and cooling the shafts rotating in the bushes.

TL;DR: In this paper, a drive train is provided with a planetary gear system including sun, planet, and internal ring gears, side plates abut the gears with the side plates being provided with oil passages aligned with teeth of the gears.
Abstract: A drive train is provided with a planetary gear system including sun, planet, and internal ring gears, side plates abut the gears with the side plates being provided with oil passages aligned with teeth of the gears. The oil passages are spaced around the periphery of the gears out of alignment with a meshing point between gears. The gears are housed in an inner housing which is substantially completely filled with oil delivered from a reservoir by gravity flow. The gears advantageously lie in a single plane for ease of sealing and manufacture. Oil passing between the gears serves to cool the gears and is squeezed between meshing teeth to provide a hydraulic resistance and thus partially lock the gears.

TL;DR: In this article, a protection system to prevent the failure of a flywheel caused by an overspeed condition of a fluid pump is proposed, where a positive displacement pump is coupled to, and driven by, the drive shaft of the fluid pump, and the positive displacement pumps circulates a fluid into a discharge manifold.
Abstract: A protection system to prevent the failure of a flywheel caused by an overspeed condition of a fluid pump. A positive displacement pump is coupled to, and driven by, the drive shaft of the fluid pump, and the positive displacement pump circulates a fluid into a discharge manifold. The fluid exits from the discharge manifold through an orifice, and returns to the positive displacement pump to be recirculated. Brake shoes are arrayed around the flywheel, and are connected to hydraulic cylinders, which in turn is connected by conduits to the discharge manifold. A pressure sensitive valve is installed in the conduit between the discharge manifold and the hydraulic cylinder. The pressure sensitive valve permits fluid to flow from the discharge manifold to the hydraulic cylinder whenever the pressure within the discharge manifold exceeds a predetermined level. The pressure in the discharge manifold, in turn, is related to the speed of the positive displacement pump, which is dependent upon the speed of the main pump drive shaft. Upon an overspeed condition, the positive displacement pump increases speed, circulates an increased quantity of fluid, which causes an increase in the manifold pressure, thereby causing the pressure sensitive valve to open and supply fluid to the hydraulic cylinders, which forces the brake shoes against the flywheel to absorb the acceleration torque of the drive shaft and prevent the failure of the flywheel by overspeed.
