TL;DR: Based on the twin shear stress yield criterion proposed by the author in 1961, a systematic theory of twin-shear stress criterion was developed in the present paper as discussed by the authors, which includes twin shears stress yield criteria (in stress space), strain yield criterion (in strain space), generalized twin sheers stress criterion considering the SD effect and the influence of hydrostatic stress, and a critical twin sheer stress criterion of slip in crystal.

TL;DR: In this article, a failure condition for glass-fiber mat laminates is proposed, which accounts for the different observed phenomena, predicts different failure modes, and proves to be reliable when compared with experimental data.
Abstract: An experimental study of glass-fiber mat laminates discloses the complexity of mechanical behavior of such composites, including pronounced anisotropy of the discontinuous type, very marked stress sign sensitivity, hydrostatic stress effects, and appearance of different failure modes. The Tsai and Wu criterion, which is widely used in engineering, is no longer adequate to predict properly the actual directional strengths of these materials. A new, more elaborate failure condition is proposed, which accounts for the different observed phenomena, predicts different failure modes, and proves to be reliable when compared with experimental data.

TL;DR: In this article, a model for the description of topologically disordered structures is proposed which is characterized by structural elements corresponding to symmetric cells and their defects, the variation of the density of the different structural elements and their arrangements yield various glassy structures as well as partial and total crystallization within them.
Abstract: A model for the description of topologically disordered structures is proposed which is characterized by structural elements corresponding to symmetric cells and their defects. The variation of the density of the different structural elements and their arrangements yield various glassy structures as well as partial and total crystallization within them. For continuous random network models, a relationship between ring statistics and disclination distribution is discussed. Correlations between structural elements result in substructures that are identified by cluster analysis on the basis of geometrical features and internal stress distributions. Estimations for pattern size and distribution of elastic strain energy and hydrostatic stress values as well as crystallization energies are obtained. Cluster regions with high internal stress values can be predominantly transformed into microcrystals. Application of the model to amorphous carbon structures is discussed.

TL;DR: In this article, the results of a laboratory testing program to determine the validity of hydraulic fracturing stress measurements in salt were discussed, and the results indicated that the breakdown pressure is not affected by time delays of up to 64 hours between the application of load fracturing the rock.

TL;DR: In this article, a thermodynamic analysis of the initiation of crazing and SB as phase transitions permits obtaining an equation for the boundary surface of yielding in the stress-temperature space.
Abstract: 1. The presence of common features in the structures of crazes and SB, the possibility of their simultaneous initiation, and the same image of the time of their multiple initiation in the deformation diagrams indicate the utility of a unified approach to constructing the corresponding dependences for the creep limit of polymer materials. 2. The thermodynamic analysis of the initiation of crazing and SB as phase transitions permits obtaining an equation for the boundary surface of yielding in the stress-temperature space. The equation in the differential form is concretely defined for cases of dilatation in conditions of hydrostatic stress and biaxial loading. The results obtained are in agreement with the experimental data. 3. As a result of generalizing the relations obtained to the case of deformational processes induced by phase transitions at the boundary of nonhydrostatically stressed phases, the necessary conditions of the local equilibrium development of crazes and SB were formulated.
