TL;DR: In this paper , the authors examine undergraduate research from student, faculty, and institutional perspectives and explore UR implementation models in community colleges, discuss selected examples of practice, present a summary of lessons learned, and make recommendations to advance UR and its early execution into the college curriculum.
Abstract: This chapter examines undergraduate research (UR) from student, faculty, and institutional perspectives. We explore UR implementation models in community colleges, discuss selected examples of practice, present a summary of lessons learned, and make recommendations to advance UR and its early execution into the college curriculum from a holistic perspective.

TL;DR: In this article , the authors discuss empirical comparisons of higher education institutions across world regions and argue that institutional data systems have the potential for complementing global comparisons promoted by rankings by providing sensible information on institutional size, budgets, staffing, enrolments and activity profiles.
Abstract: ABSTRACT This paper discusses empirical comparisons of higher education institutions across world regions. It argues that institutional data systems have the potential for complementing global comparisons promoted by rankings by providing sensible information on institutional size, budgets, staffing, enrolments and activity profiles. With this perspective in hand, this paper tackles three questions. First, how is it feasible to identify Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) given their complex structures? Second, how is it feasible to define the perimeter of HEI sectors? Third, what kinds of data could be used for comparison, and where are the main data gaps? By analysing institutional data systems across the United States, Europe and Asia, the paper concludes that institutional data systems display some remarkable similarities that make them an important resource for global comparisons; however, variation in the context of data production and usage implies differences in the higher education perimeter and on institutional delimitation; sensible comparisons, therefore, require explicit knowledge of the institutional context in which data have been borne.

TL;DR: A new practical approach for tracking institutional changes in research teamwork and productivity using commonly available institutional electronic databases such as eCV and grant management systems is proposed.
Abstract: Abstract This study proposes a new practical approach for tracking institutional changes in research teamwork and productivity using commonly available institutional electronic databases such as eCV and grant management systems. We tested several definitions of interdisciplinary collaborations based on number of collaborations and their fields of discipline. We demonstrated that the extent of interdisciplinary collaboration varies significantly by academic unit, faculty appointment and seniority. Interdisciplinary grants constitute 24% of all grants but the trend has significantly increased over the last five years. Departments with more interdisciplinary grants receive more research funding. More research is needed to improve efficiency of interdisciplinary collaborations.

TL;DR: The authors examined a small sample of community college institutional research officers and their work, with attention paid to their understandings of machine learning, and found that these institutional researchers see both possibilities in the use of ML but also see barriers to its adoption in their institutions.
Abstract: ABSTRACT Given pressing enrollment, retention and completion issues at community colleges, the use of data analytic tools has gained more relevance for practitioners and scholars. Among these tools is machine learning, but its use is relatively new to community colleges and institutional research practice. This exploratory qualitative study examined a small sample of community college institutional research officers and their work, with attention paid to their understandings of machine learning. Results suggest that these institutional research officers see both possibilities in the use of machine learning but also see barriers to its adoption in their institutions. A discussion highlighting the study’s results is then followed by noting the implications for current and future administrative practice and suggesting pathways for future research.

TL;DR: Wang et al. as mentioned in this paper sort out the relationship between absolute institutional factors and bilateral institutional distance and the location choice of Chinese OFDI, including the methods of measuring absolute institutional quality and institutional distance.
Abstract: : This paper sorts out the relationship between absolute institutional factors and bilateral institutional distance and the location choice of Chinese OFDI, including the methods of measuring absolute institutional quality and institutional distance, and the impact of institutional quality or institutional distance on the location choice of Chinese OFDI. Currently, there is no unified standard for measuring institutional quality and calculating institutional distance, but scholars mainly use the World Governance Indicators (WGI) to measure institutional quality and bilateral institutional distance. Regarding institutional quality, there is no uniformity in the impact of the bilateral institutional environment on China's OFDI, and there are even opposing views. There are institutional risk aversion and institutional risk preferences regarding institutional quality, and institutional escape and institutional proximity theories regarding institutional distance. As research progresses, more and more scholars are also aware of the need for heterogeneity analysis of countries, regional industries, etc.
