TL;DR: The Human Environment: Landscape Architecture as mentioned in this paper is a collection of articles about the human environment in the context of landscape architecture. But the focus of this article is on the human factors in landscape design.
Abstract: 1. The Human Environment: Landscape Architecture. 2. The Garden in History. 3. Landscape and Natural Resources. 4. Urban Parks and Recreation. 5. Housing. 6. Landscape Planning. 7. Site Planning. 8. Design. 9. Human Factors in Landscape Architecture. 10. Climate and Microclimate. 11. Plants and Planting Design. 12. Landscape Engineering. Postscript. Bibliography. Index.

TL;DR: In this article, an alternative to landscape complexity as a measure of visual landscape quality is presented, called visual land use compatibility, which is defined as the relationship between adjacent land uses.
Abstract: In this paper an alternative to landscape complexity as a measure of visual landscape quality is presented. This alternative is called visual land use compatibility and is defined as the relationship between adjacent land uses. The research described is part of an interdisciplinary project at the University of Massachusetts called the Metropolitan Landscape Planning Model (METLAND). The Paper discusses man's concern for the relationships between land uses, tracing that concern through history to the present. A procedure that was designed to measure perceptions of the visual aspects of these land use relationships is described. The paper concludes that it appears to be valid to extend the concept of “misfits” into a more general model of both desirable and undesirable aspects of land use relationships and calls for further research to develop that model.

TL;DR: Manten, A. et al. as mentioned in this paper reviewed 50 years of rural landscape planning in The Netherlands and outlined the problems relating to the drafting of a Rural-Land Development Act, currently in progress.

TL;DR: In this way, urban and industrial development, together with modern agricultural techniques, increasing traffic, recreation and pollution, caused a disastrous situation in the densely populated western part of Belgium, where only a limited number of natural or semi-natural landscapes are still to be found as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: Although several private organisations for the study and conservation of nature were already active, and in spite of the efforts of some departments, spatial planning agencies did not take into account the real ecological basis of the environment. In this way, urban and industrial development, together with modern agricultural techniques, increasing traffic, recreation and pollution, caused a disastrous situation in the densely populated western part of Belgium, where only a limited number of ‘natural’ or ‘semi-natural’ landscapes are still to be found. Only a few small relicts are protected as nature reserves (together 0,4% only of the total area).

TL;DR: The computer oriented approach has serveral advantages as a tool and as a method for the complex natural resources analysis and landscape planning.
Abstract: Landscape planning and natural resources analysis becomes increasingly more important in todays planning. But there are a few methods which are acceptable for general use. The computer oriented approach has serveral advantages as a tool and as a method for the complex natural resources analysis and landscape planning. The natural resource and lan.d use data is collected on a grid base and stored in a data bank.

TL;DR: Linke and Thomas, S., 1975 as mentioned in this paper dealt with individual parts of the plan, such as nature conservation, nature reserves, preservation of historical monuments, selected sites, problems of engineering biology and the creation of new landscapes in former mining areas.

TL;DR: In this article, applied geology is confronted with the request to find optimum locations for new regional refuse deposits, which is a major aspect of environmental protection is the disposal of refuse.
Abstract: One major aspect of environmental protection is the disposal of refuse. Together with other disciplines applied geology is confronted with the request to find optimum locations for new regional refuse deposits.

TL;DR: Landscape management, defined as measures and means for the protection and restoration of landscape damages, is neither landscape planning nor forest management policy on an ecological basis but rather a technical discipline in the field of ecology.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors discuss how future social turbulence can be mitigated by residuals management, ecological and landscape planning, and long-range natural resources planning, which can either increase turbulence and negative public reaction, or it can increase social acceptance of the facts of a modern economy.
Abstract: Social change often reflects upon mineral production practices. Industry can either increase turbulence and negative public reaction, or it can increase social acceptance of the facts of a modern economy; residuals are inevitable and need management. Future social turbulence can be mitigated by residuals management, ecological and landscape planning, and long-range natural resources planning.

Abstract: Geographers are accustomed to suppose that the only major concept which has emerged from their discipline is environmental determinism, and that even this has proved false. In fact, more than a century earlier the earth scientists ( physical geographers if you will) had made fundamental contributions to the ascendancy of rationalism, which intellectually threatened religion and scientifically made possible the technological revolution to which we are heirs.
