TL;DR: The King and Lyric Poetry as discussed by the authors is a novel about the suicide of the last Nobel Prize laureate in the future history of literature, Chinese poet Yuwen Wanghu, which reconstructs utopian and dystopian semi-virtual landscapes of the mid-21st century China which feed into two different models of lyricism.
Abstract: The present paper discusses Li Hongwei’s novel The King and Lyric Poetry (2017). The novel tells the story of the suicide of the last Nobel Prize laureate in the future history of literature, Chinese poet Yuwen Wanghu. Following the detective thread of the book, the essay reconstructs utopian and dystopian semi-virtual landscapes of the mid-21st century China which feed into two different models of lyricism: the poet as a knight errant who seeks inspiration far from modern civilization and the poet as a lonely warrior against (technological) tyranny. In the final scene, the two landscapes blur and the antithetical forces that infuse them: lyricism (Yuwen) and power/knowledge (the King) merge into what may be seen as their dialectical synthesis to be fulfilled by the novel’s third protagonist – Yuwen’s young friend, Li Pulei. Mobilizing various contexts, including the suicides of famous mainland-Chinese poets, important poetry polemics, and intertexts ranging from classical Chinese literary theory through to Truman Show and Matrix, I argue that the novel mirrors the development of poetry discourse in the PRC with its various myths, conflicts, complexes, and ambitions. I also show how this discourse, shaped for a long time largely by the so-called Third Generation poets born in the 1950s and 1960s, translates into the situation of the poets who belong to a younger generation (“post-70”) represented by Li Hongwei among others, and what (self-)expectations, challenges, and limitations they face in their writing.

TL;DR: The authors traced the elements of change in the early and late Shakespearean tragedies from the viewpoint of style and the writer's ideological stance, and found that Shakespeare's tragic writing undergoes certain modification as he moves further in his career.
Abstract: The present article attempts to trace the elements of change in the early and late Shakespearean tragedies from the viewpoint of style and the writer’s ideological stance. Shakespeare’s tragic writing undergoes certain modification as he moves further in his career. One aspect of this modification is the change in the protagonist’s dynamism. Although Romeo and Juliet both show certain signs of development which separates them from comic characters, they still lack the psychological depth which is witnessed in Shakespeare’s late tragic heroes. It is true they realize their tragic fate, yet they fail in gaining full consciousness of their situation and their contribution to their own destiny. Another aspect is the change of diction toward a more ‘natural’ employment of language and rhetorical devices. In Shakespeare’s mature tragedies, we do not see the experimental lyricism we witness in Romeo and Juliet, as the playwright seems to adopt the classical notion of decorum, according to which each character should speak in accordance with its social status.

TL;DR: In this article, a comprehensive linguistic study of the functional features of the linguistic and communicative-pragmatic organization of narrative in text materials posted on the Internet platform is presented, focusing on how the interpenetration of the narrative and lyrical principles occurs within one work.
Abstract: A comprehensive linguistic study of the functional features of the linguistic and communicative-pragmatic organization of narrative in text materials posted on the Internet platform is presented. Particular attention is paid to how the interpenetration of the narrative and lyrical principles occurs within one work. The material for the research was the text of the hip-hop opera “Orpheus & Eurydice” posted on the re-source “Yandex.Music”. A complex technique of interpretation of narrative strategies based on the methods of functional-stylistic, communicative-pragmatic and lexical-semantic analysis was used. The question is raised about the peculiarities of the functioning of the lyric text within the narrative and about their relationship. The role played by the mythologization of the narrative text is shown in the article. The novelty of the research is seen in the fact that the author describes the relationship be-tween narrative and lyricism in the work. The question of establishing the determinants of hip-hop narrative is raised. The structure of a narrative text with elements of lyricism is considered. The results of the analysis of the peculiarities of the linguistic embodiment of the narrators and actants are presented. The author dwells on the communicative-functional structure of the studied text, describing the specific functions of the narrative with fragments of lyricism. A model for determining the leading type of cognitive modeling (narrative or lyrics) through the functional and linguopragmatic study of the hip-hop text is proposed.

TL;DR: This article explored the not-so-explored expressive content of the Santali language that has the twofold potential of being appreciated by the Santals themselves and the people who come from the dominant language communities.
Abstract: The acceleration in decay, decadence and extinction of languages and dialects following intrusion of dominant groups into areas populated by marginalized peoples is a reality and often the language of the marginalized communities becomes the first casualty. This chapter explores the not-so-explored expressive content of the Santali language that we realize has the two-fold potential of being appreciated by the Santals themselves and the people who come from the dominant language communities. This appreciation can help in the affirmation of self-confidence of the Santals as well as contribute to building bridges between communities otherwise divided by language. We also expect that this chapter will contribute to the nurturance of languages that are in the process of extinction within the community who think it more profitable to opt for the dominant languages to further their goals of integration into nation-state. This chapter brings into focus the grounds for recognizing the beauty, lyricism and richness of the Santali language, the use of which is gradually diminishing leading to loss of community identity. This is a step in support of the Santal community and to nurture the inherent strengths of their language.
