Abstract: Magic squares have played various roles in the mathematics classroom: as a motiva tional device, as a problem-solving venture, and as an alternative way to review con tent. Magic squares are relatively easy to construct. Various algorithms exist that en able students of mathematics to construct magic squares as well as other magic fig ures. The construction of their own magic figures gives students the satisfaction that comes from realizing that for one small in stance in a numerical eternity they have harnessed number (see Andrews 1960).
