TL;DR: The case of a 28-year-old female presented after a suicidal consumption of prallethrin raises the possibility that cardiac arrhythmia due to pyrethroid poisoning can occur due to its effect on sodium channels in the heart.
Abstract: Pyrethroids are common household insecticides. Even though they are less toxic to humans, reports of accidental and suicidal poisoning are not uncommon. Cardiotoxicity due to pyrethroid poisoning is rare. We report a case of cardiac conduction disturbance due to a pyrethroid, prallethrin. A 28-year-old female presented after a suicidal consumption of prallethrin. Her clinical and laboratory parameters were normal during the first 24 h of hospital stay. On the second hospital day, she developed metabolic acidosis and sinus arrest with escape junctional rhythm. Despite correction of metabolic acidosis, the sinus arrest persisted for 3 days. She reverted back to sinus rhythm with bradycardia after this period and was discharged on the seventh hospital day. Her follow-up was uneventful. Pyrethroid poisoning can affect the gastrointestinal, respiratory, and nervous system. Most serious effects of the toxin in humans are seizures and coma. Mechanism of pyrethroid neurotoxicity is believed to be due to its ability to modify sodium, chloride, and calcium channels of the neurons. Our case raises the possibility that cardiac arrhythmia due to pyrethroid poisoning can occur due to its effect on sodium channels in the heart.

TL;DR: A positive correlation was found between mosquitoes that spent more time flying during the time of spraying and number of droplets on their bodies, and the effects of droplet volume and subsequent mortality are discussed.
Abstract: Female Culex quinquefasciatus Say (Diptera: Culicidae) mosquitoes were exposed to sublethal amounts of prallethrin, sumithrin, and piperonyl butoxide applied as ultralow volume (ULV) droplets in a wind tunnel. Mosquitoes were video recorded before, during, and after treatment, and the number and size of droplets on their bodies were later determined using a compound microscope. A positive correlation was found between mosquitoes that spent more time flying during the time of spraying and number of droplets on their bodies. Excitation, in the form of increased speed and duration of flight, was immediate in mosquitoes exposed to prallethrin, whereas exposure to sumithrin did not increase their exposure to the ULV droplets. The location of droplets on mosquitoes, the effects of droplet volume, and subsequent mortality are discussed.

TL;DR: The proposed method was successfully applied for the determination of pyrethroids in mosquito coils and two aerosol products and the recovery of transallethrin in mosquito coil at three spiked levels was 96.8% with relative standard deviation less than 2.7%.

TL;DR: Characteristics of two pesticides are provided by checking the transcriptional change by comparing the characters of herbicide and insecticide by cytotoxicity and microarray experiments.
Abstract: Pesticide is a chemical substance, biological agent, antimicrobial, disinfectant or device used against any pest, and it can be grouped in several different ways. Atrazine is one of the most commonly used herbicides found in the rural environments, permethrin and prallethrin are pyrethroid insecticides. In this study, we compared the characters of herbicide and insecticide by cytotoxicity and microarray experiments. In the cytotoxicity tests, we couldn’t find specific chemical features. However, in the gene expression analysis, we found that insecticides affects to RNA processing and RNA metabolism, and especially, in the energy metabolism, such as generation of precursor metabolites and energy, and energy derivation by oxidation of organic compounds, herbicides and insecticides are differently working. This study provides characteristics of two pesticides by checking the transcriptional change.
