Abstract: Preoccupation with finance and cost-effectiveness had meant that the human side of project management has been severely neglected. There is a pressing need for a more ‘descriptive’ approach in which the manager's role as decision-maker is taken fully into account. In this model the demands made on the project manager as the man in the middle, the constraints of the job and the choices available must be considered.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors present a model of Basic Manufacturing Technologies' stakeholder universe, and illustrate how this manufacturer of steel interacts with its stakeholders, concluding that these relationships are more complex than BMT's stakeholder philosophy portrays.
Abstract: Under the assumption that business ethics can be enhanced by evaluating the affects of decisions on others, this essay demonstrates a case study in stakeholder analysis. While much normative literature has been compiled on the subject of stakeholder management, even more can be learned from the first-hand observation of stakeholder interactions. The purpose of this essay is to present a model of Basic Manufacturing Technologies' stakeholder universe, and illustrate how this manufacturer of steel interacts with its stakeholders. The conclusion which is drawn suggests that these relationships are more complex than BMT's stakeholder philosophy portrays.

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors investigate the relationship between role stress and communication aspects such as boundary spanning, perceived effectiveness, satisfaction and job tension, and conclude that critical behavioural issues which impinge on project management effectiveness are discussed.
Abstract: Project management has become a common organisational approach to manage complex projects. Despite its popularity, few studies have used a human resource perspective to understand the behavioural dimensions of the project manager. This study reports an empirical investigation on some of the causes and consequences of role stress among project managers. The sample consisted of 101 project managers in both projectised and matrix organisations. The study investigates the relationships between role stress and communication aspects such as boundary spanning, perceived effectiveness, satisfaction and job tension. It also examines the effect of role autonomy, need for achievement, age and experience on effectiveness, satisfaction and performance. Implications of the study, in terms of project management effectiveness are discussed. The study concludes with a summary of critical behavioural issues which impinge on project management effectiveness.
