Journal ArticleDOI
TL;DR: Phillips et al. as mentioned in this paper found that the relative order of magnitude of the allocation of eroded sediment for southern Piedmont rivers is colluvial, alluvial storage, and yield.

TL;DR: In this paper, a brief description of the studies carried out in France during the last years, especially on scale models, in order to improve the knowledge of the behaviour of ships progressing in approach channels subject to siltation is given.

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated alternative entrance management options to overcome problems with siltation at the entrance to Bandy Creek Boat Harbour, Esperance, and selected an angled off-shore breakwater which was designed to act as a one-way sand trap.
Abstract: Investigations were conducted into alternative entrance management options to overcome problems with siltation at the entrance to Bandy Creek Boat Harbour, Esperance. The selected strategy involved the construction of an angled off-shore breakwater which was designed to act as a one-way sand trap. A subsequent performance monitoring programme indicated that, under certain conditions, this type of breakwater will act as a one-way trap and has applications in reducing siltation at ocean entrances.

TL;DR: A review of the latest theories on sediment transport and methods used in making long term predictions is given in this paper, where the authors cover the first part of this study and comprises a review of sediment transport theories and methods.
Abstract: Sediment transport in exposed shallow waters is such a complex subject that is extremely difficult to give estimates of siltation, maintenance dredging rates etc., within precise limits. This report covers the first part of this study and comprises a review of the latest theories on sediment transport and methods used in making long term predictions.

TL;DR: In this article, the first period of siltation of a mountain reservoir was determined by using the graphs in Fig. 2 generalizing the operating experience of the world's reservoirs.
Abstract: 1. It is recommended to calculate siltation of rapidly silting mountain reservoirs by dependences (5)-(8) with consideration of removal of sedimetns. 2. To determine the first period of siltation, it is recommended to use the graphs in Fig. 2 generalizing the operating experience of the world's reservoirs. 3. Flushing carried out to preserve the useful storage of a reservoir lead to losses of electrical energy. To solve the problem of the expediency of flushing, it is necessary to perform energy-economic calculations.
