TL;DR: In this article, an improved method for hydro-mechanical stamping wherein hollow products are formed from flat blanks by the cooperation of a punch and a liquid female tool is presented.
Abstract: The present invention provides an improved method for hydro-mechanical stamping wherein hollow products are formed from flat blanks by the cooperation of a punch and a liquid female tool. The present method particularly provides for submerging in the liquid the blank which is to be stamped, the level of the liquid being also maintained above the usual stamping ring. The invention further provides apparatus which acts to center the blank relative to the stamping ring, the present apparatus comprising an additional ring rigidly connected to the stamping ring and having radial apertures therein which form portions of circuitous liquid paths through which liquid flows on stamping, the paths acting to prevent localized rupture during stamping. The present method and apparatus find particular application to the high-speed manufacture of hollow, thin-walled articles of non-cylindrical shape.

TL;DR: Torque transmitting fluid couplings of two types are described, one a thermatically controlled coupling and the other a torque limiting coupling as discussed by the authors, which are characterized by the use of parts which can be manufactured at low cost and easily and quickly assembled.
Abstract: Torque transmitting fluid couplings of two types are described, one a thermatically controlled coupling and the other a torque limiting coupling. Both are characterized by the use of parts which can be manufactured at low cost and easily and quickly assembled, and contribute to greater efficiency in operation than fluid couplings of these types which have heretofore been marketed. Both utilize a housing or casing which is die-cast complete and finish bored, a drive shaft and coupling flange made of two separate pieces, which are welded together, ball bearing mounts, a cover or cover member made as a metal stamping, and a drive disc which is die-cast, in a single piece, to provide a friction ring and friction segments molded integrally therewith. In the thermatically-controlled type, the cover is part of a cover assembly, which comprises a bracket for supporting a bimetal strip, a steel guide bushing riveted to the cover and in which a piston or pin is adapted to be slidably mounted, and a rubber piston seal for preventing leakage of fluid through the cover. The thermatically-controlled type also includes a plate and spring assembly, comprising a divider plate made as a steel stamping and a spring made of spring steel and supporting a weir made of a graphite-filled material.

TL;DR: In this paper, an alternative approach to high strength stampings based on thermomechanical (TMT) processing of a low carbon steel is described, the contributions to strength due to work hardening during stamping and age hardening after stamping are incorporated into the overall processing scheme.
Abstract: Considerable attention has been focused recently on the development of higher strength automobile stampings. Traditionally increasing the strength of a stamping has been accomplished by utilizing a higher strength material with its attendant problems in springback, die wear and press loads. An alternative approach to high strength stampings based on thermomechanical (TMT) processing of a low carbon steel is described. With this approach, the contributions to strength due to work hardening during stamping and age hardening after stamping are incorporated into the overall processing scheme. The TMT process consists of heating a low carbon steel to the two phase(α + γ) region and quenching to produce a dispersion of martensite in a ferrite matrix. A second, low temperature heat treatment is then employed to improve the total elongation to acceptable levels. The processed steel is then stamped and subsequently aged at either ambient or elevated temperature to develop final strength. The relative contributions of the individual operations of the TMT process to final strength are discussed and the required heat treatment parameters are evaluated in terms of the operative strengthening mechanisms.

The embossing of films from thermoplastic materials, in particular the double-sided embossing, by means of an embossing roller pair is performed by this method, that the embossing roller (4,9) is maintained at a temperature which is in the plastic temperature range of the thermoplastic, the applied film ( 1) a temperature in the temperature range between the glass transition temperature of the thermoplastic material and up to about 70 ° C having overlying temperature, and that the fed sheet has a speed of 5 to 200 m / min and subjected to an embossing pressure of 100 to 500 N / cm , Durch dieses Verfahren wird verhindert, das beim beidseitigen Pragen die zuerst aufgebrachte Pragung durch den zweiten Pragevorgang in unerwunschter Weise verandert wird. By this method it is prevented that the first applied embossing is changed by the second embossing operation in an undesirable manner at the two-sided embossing. Die Pragefolien konnen verwendet werden als Dekorations-, Mobel-oder Schreibfolien. The stamping foils can be used as decoration, furniture or write films.
