TL;DR: In this paper, an electronic circuit package (11) includes a substrate (14) with leads (21) extending from at least one edge of the substrate, and the leads have a split end formed by two slits (31, 51).
Abstract: An electronic circuit package (11) includes a substrate (14) with leads (21) extending from at least one edge thereof. The leads (21) have a split end (26) formed by two slits (31, 51). The slits divide the end into a lead stub (29) and a flag end (28). The flag end (28) is formed up in a step of approximately the thickness of the substrate (14). The forming of the flag end (28) foreshortens a flag support (32) to locate a flag (34) in substantial superposition to the lead stub (29). Both the lead stub (29) and the flag (34) are solder bonded to respective bond pads (18) on the upper and lower major surfaces of the substrate (14).

TL;DR: In this article, a foldable mast assembly for sailboats is described, where a main mast is pivotably connected to a stub mast which is pivotally connected to the base secured to the sailboat deck.
Abstract: A foldable mast assembly for sailboats wherein a main mast is pivotably connected to a stub mast which is pivotally connected to a base secured to the sailboat deck. A removable pin extends between the stub mast and base whereby the main mast and stub mast may be folded to an inoperative position substantially parallel to the main deck and centered approximately lengthwise of the sailboat. The folding and raising of the main and stub masts are controlled by a cable reeved through sheaves carried on the main and stub masts, one end of the cable being connected to the fore deck near the bow of the sailboat and the other end connected to a power winch on the aft deck of the sailboat. In smaller sailboats, having small masts where cables and sheaves are not required, the folding and raising of the main and stub masts can be accomplished manually.

TL;DR: An unsheathed grease-filled cable stub has the grease removed from around the insulated wires by subjecting the cable stub to radiant heat over the length of the stub and over a major portion of its circumference while the stub is supported on a flexible open mesh of material that overlies a trough as discussed by the authors.
Abstract: An unsheathed grease-filled cable stub has the grease removed from around the insulated wires by subjecting the cable stub to radiant heat over the length of the stub and over a major portion of its circumference while the stub is supported on a flexible open mesh of material that overlies a trough. The heated grease melts and flows downwardly for collection into the trough, the grease also flowing through the supporting mesh. The heating temperature of the cable stub is kept low enough to prevent damage to the insulation of the wires.

TL;DR: In this article, an exhaust stub for a turbo-prop engine which exits from the aircraft nacelle at a location other than the aft end is attached to the exhaust stub to minimize frontal area for a given exhaust stub exit area.
Abstract: An exhaust stub for a turbo-prop engine which exits from the aircraft nacelle at a location other than the aft end. A fairing is attached to the exhaust stub to minimize frontal area for a given exhaust stub exit area, but free of the nacelle, because of the requirement for the exhaust stub to move relative to the nacelle. An end plate is secured about the exhaust stub and fairing, substantially parallel to and at close proximity to the nacelle. The end plate effectively improves the performance of the fairing, by eliminating the effect of the gap in the nacelle around the stub and also the gap between the fairing and the nacelle. Improving the performance of the fairing reduces the magnitude of the exhaust duct wake which in turn reduces the momentum definiency in the wake flow; reduces exhaust duct drag; reduces mixing of the exhaust gases into the wake region; and reduces nacelle sooting by exhaust gases.
