TL;DR: In this article, the downhole device is deactivated by circulating fluid through the drill string to create a second pressure condition that actsuate a timer that runs as long as the preselected pressure condition is maintained.
Abstract: To actuate downhole devices in accordance with the disclosure, fluid is pumped through the drill string at a rate that creates a preselected pressure condition in the drill string. At such preselected pressure condition, a timer is actuated that continues to run as long as the preselected pressure condition exists. If the pressure condition is maintained for a length of time sufficient for the timer to time out, the downhole device will be actuated. The device is deactuated by circulating fluid through the drill string to create a second pressure condition that actuates a timer that runs as long as the preselected pressure condition is maintained. When the timer times out, it deactivates the device. In another embodiment, the particular device to be actuated is selected by rotation of the drill string after the timer times out. It is deactuated by creating a particular flow condition until the timer times out. A third embodiment permits selection of simultaneous functions by the flow-time method and deactuation by stopping fluid circulation.

Abstract: To avoid useless power consumption in electronic apparatus equipped with display units, for example, such as electronic desk-top calculators with light-emitting diodes, a pair of timer arrangements are provided between the display units and power source thereof. The first timer arrangment serves to turn the display units from the first display condition to the second display condition or more particularly reduce brightness of the display units. After operating the first timer arrangment, power supply is inhibited to at least the display units by means of the second timer arrangment.

TL;DR: In this article, a digital cooking timer with minimum and maximum time decoders is described. But the authors do not specify the number of times a cooking medium can be used.
Abstract: A digital cooking timer responsive to the temperature of a cooking medium and incorporating minimum and maximum time decoders to insure that the cooking period is within a predetermined range is described. An interval timer sets up a counting period upon immersion of the product in the cooking medium but is inhibited from starting its counting function by the minimum time decoder until elapse of a fixed time period. After elapse of the fixed time period, the interval timer is enabled when and if the cooking medium reaches a predetermined temperature. The maximum time decoder provides an override control that energizes the control device after a fixed period in the absence of an energizing signal for the control device from the interval timer.

TL;DR: In this paper, a daylight sensor and a headlight sensor are connected in a variable voltage divider, and a potential is provided to a voltage gate which is sufficient to break down a zener diode and gate current to a timer circuit.
Abstract: A daylight sensor and a headlight sensor are connected in a variable voltage divider. When darkness turns the daylight sensor off and headlights turn a sensor on, a potential is provided to a voltage gate which is sufficient to break down a zener diode and gate current to a timer circuit. A diode in the voltage gate prevents reverse flow of current from a timer. A timer circuit contains a capacitor and resistor which discharges the capacitor. When the voltage is gated to the timer circuit and during the time that capacitor maintains a sufficient potential, a light switch is held on. A triac in the light switch control the lights. Approximately 3 seconds after the capacitor in the timer is charged to its potential, a transistor is switched on, placing a ground potential to the midpoint of the voltage divider to cut off the gate voltage. A chime operator is activated by sampling the potential from the variable voltage divider to slowly ring a door chime as an automobile is sensed. House and garage lights are lighted automatically a short time after a doorbell is rung at night to suggest a human response to the doorbell.

TL;DR: An electronic interval timer with an input means for setting an interval and a trigger switch for starting the timer can be found in this paper, where the trigger switch loads a number representing the interval into a register and clears a counter.
Abstract: An electronic interval timer with an input means for setting an interval and a trigger switch for starting the timer. Actuating the trigger switch loads a number representing the interval into a register and clears a counter. Subsequent clock pulses pass through an enabled gating circuit and advance the counter. A comparator energizes an output circuit until the values in the counter and the register are equal. While the output circuit is energized, the trigger switch is disabled and operation of the input means does not affect the timer.

TL;DR: In this article, a motor vehicle is equipped with a system for inhibiting operation by a drunk driver, where a sample of the driver's breath is directed to a chamber containing chemical granules which react with alcohol fumes exothermally.
Abstract: A motor vehicle is equipped with a system for inhibiting operation by a drunk driver. A sample of the driver''s breath is directed to a chamber containing chemical granules which react with alcohol fumes exothermally. A temperature responsive switch, which is in the form of a capillary tube partially filled with mercury and having electrodes at each end, extends through the chemical granules and is connected in a control circuit. The control circuit includes timers, alarms, and a relay for opening the ignition circuit of the vehicle. Upon actuation of the temperature responsive switch, an alarm and a timer are energized. After a predetermined time interval, the timer energizes a second alarm and a second timer. The second timer, after a predetermined time interval, energizes the relay to open the ignition circuit of the vehicle. Three such chambers are provided, each having a temperature responsive switch. A flow control valve directs the sample of the driver''s breath to one of the chambers, and a selective switch is provided for connecting the temperature responsive switch in the selected chamber to the control circuit.

TL;DR: In this article, error bistable circuit monitors the output of a real time timer which is incremented every basic order time (i.e., machine cycle time) and which will cause the system to enter a recovery phase if it overflows prior to its being reset.
Abstract: Circuitry is disclosed for monitoring the execution of programs in a central processor of a digital communications system. For recovery programs under the normal mode the program must ''''punch in'''' with a recovery program timer at designated intervals, or the circuitry generates a system error level signal. In a special mode, punch in may occur at any time prior to a designated time. Further, for programs other than recovery programs, an error bistable circuit monitors the output of a real time timer which is incremented every basic order time (i.e., machine cycle time) and which will cause the system to enter a recovery phase if it overflows prior to its being reset.

TL;DR: In this article, a circuit arrangement is provided for obtaining two volume levels for clock radios, one for providing a soft volume during an initial slumber period of the clock radio when it was intended that persons go to sleep, and the other volume level is a loud volume during a wake-up period when it is intended that people are to be awakened from their sleep.
Abstract: A circuit arrangement is provided for obtaining two volume levels for clock radios. One volume level is for providing a soft volume during an initial slumber period of the clock radio when it is intended that persons go to sleep, and the other volume level is a loud volume during a wake-up period when it is intended that persons are to be awakened from their sleep. The two level volume control includes a latching circuit which has one of the components thereof arranged to be a switching element which is activated for changing the volume control of the clock radio to a lower volume during a slumber period. When the clock radio is deenergized by turning off the automatic timer switch the latching is also deenergized. When the clock radio is again energized by means of the conventional clock operated on-off switch the latching circuit remains deenergized thus causing automatic deenergization of the switching element automatically to increase the volume produced by the radio during a radio alarm period.

TL;DR: In this paper, a valve control circuit for fuel burners and the like is described, where energy is received by an energy storage circuit and periodically removed therefrom and transferred to a pulse circuit.
Abstract: Disclosed is a valve control circuit for fuel burners and the like. Energy is received by an energy storage circuit and periodically is rapidly removed therefrom and transferred to a pulse circuit. The pulse circuit, responsive only to pulses, receives the energy pulses on discharge and provides a valve activating signal in response thereto. The system is failsafe inasmuch as component failure prevents the pulses from being supplied to the pulse circuit. Furthermore, limit apparatus prevents sufficient power from being directly supplied from the power source to the valve to cause actuation. Two timers are also provided to cause system lock out in the event of failure to ignite. Either timer is sufficient by itself to cause lock out so that if one of the timers fails, lock out is still achieved.
