TL;DR: It is concluded that Y-cells of the retina are preserved while X-cells are lost, since the studies indicate that the ganglion cells remaining after cortical lesions project almost exclusively to the magnocellular rather than the parvocellular layers.

TL;DR: Using operant conditioning to study cortical physiology, researchers have generated new insights into the pathophysiology and clinical effects of epilepsy, and an explanation of how this control is mediated and an accounting of various factors that influence it is provided.
Abstract: This article reviews three points. Monkeys may be trained by operant conditioning to control the firing rate and pattern of single neurons in the precentral cortex. Recent data provide an explanation of how this control is mediated and an accounting of various factors that influence it. Using this technique to study cortical physiology, researchers have generated new insights into the pathophysiology and clinical effects of epilepsy.
