TL;DR: In this article, a camera is mounted on a separate tripod for pivotal movement about a panning axis and a platform member on which to mount a separate camera, and a locking mechanism locks the platform member against pivotal movements about both of the tilting axes by operation of a single knob.
Abstract: A tripod head includes a base member adapted to be mounted on a separate tripod for pivotal movement about a panning axis and a platform member on which to mount a separate camera. Components are provided for mounting the platform member on the base member to enable independent pivotal movement of the platform member about first and second mutually perpendicular tilting axes. A locking mechanism locks the platform member against pivotal movement about both of the tilting axes by operation of a single knob. Friction plates enhance locking, and the number and size of the friction plates may be adapted to cause locking about one tilting axis before the other. A quick release camera mount is included that enables convenient displacement ninety degrees.

TL;DR: In this paper, a slidable-type homokinetic tripod joint with track groove is described, which includes an outer member formed with track grooves, a tripod member having three trunnions, and a spherical roller rotatably mounted on each trunnion.
Abstract: A slidable-type homokinetic tripod joint includes an outer member formed with track grooves, a tripod member having three trunnions and mounted in the outer member with the trunnions on the tripod member received in the track grooves in the outer member, and a spherical roller rotatably mounted on each trunnion. Each track groove is formed at each side with a guide surface for the spherical roller. The spherical roller is kept in contact with the roller guide surface at two points. This decreases unbalanced load and the turning moment acting on the spherical roller and decreases the friction force causing vibration.

TL;DR: In this article, a camera supporting device with a one-handed grip and a trigger is presented, where a shoe mounting surface is formed on the top of the body, and a shoe is mounted rotatably and detachably on the mounting surface.
Abstract: A body of a camera supporting device according to the present invention is provided with a grip which is shaped so as to permit a one-handed hold, and which incorporates a trigger. A shoe mounting surface is formed on the top of the body, and a shoe is mounted rotatably and detachably on the mounting surface. The shoe is fitted with a camera screw. A ball is fixed on a fixed base which is mounted on a tripod, and is rotatably housed in a cylindrical ball case. The ball case and the body are connected to each other. The ball is held beween an edge of the ball case and a ball retainer by means of the urging force of a compression coil spring. The ball retainer can be moved away from the ball, by means of a link mechanism, by squeezing the trigger, thereby permitting orientation in all directions of a camera mounted on the shoe mounting surface. The camera is locked in position when the trigger is released.

TL;DR: In this article, three pivotally interconnected arms are connected to a frame which is slidingably connected to the base, and one of the arms supports a camera thereon, to reformat a camera view from horizontal to vertical or vice versa.
Abstract: Three pivotally interconnected arms are pivotally and slidably connected to a frame which is slidably connected to a base. One of the arms supports a camera thereon. The arms are pivotal to the left and to the right to reformat a camera view from horizontal to vertical or vice versa. The base slides with respect to the frame to eliminate horizontal parallax error. Vertical parallax error can be compensated for by elevating the arm supporting the camera.

Abstract: Apparatus for converting a camera for close-up photography, includes a flash hood attachment for the flash unit of the camera for reflectively spreading a beam of light from the flash unit to distribute the light over the field of view for very close subjects. Other attachments provide for reducing the light received by an auto-exposure system of a camera, for blocking a portion of a viewfinder window to correct for parallax problems, and for covering the lens of the camera with a pin hole to convert the camera to a fixed focus camera, all for converting a conventional camera for close-up photography.

TL;DR: A homokinetic tripod type universal joint including a tripod member having three trunnions, with a roller rotatably mounted on each trunnion is mounted in an outer member.
Abstract: A homokinetic tripod type universal joint including a tripod member having three trunnions, with a roller rotatably mounted on each trunnion is mounted in an outer member. The roller consists of an inside ring and an outside ring wherein contact is established between a spherical outer periphery of the inside ring and a cylindrical inner periphery of the outside ring. The outside ring is guided in a direction parallel with the axis of the outer member by guide surfaces provided internally of grooves formed on the outer member. This arrangement helps to reduce sliding resistance, temperature rise and vibrations due to induced thrust.

Abstract: The legs of a tripod are held in support position against further spreading by a flexible cable that is unspooled from a spring biased drum. The spring bias will respool the cable when the tripod legs are collapsed. The drum is in a housing fixed on one of the tripod legs, and the housing includes a locking device for locking rotation of the drum so as to fix the effective length of the cable and thus hold the legs to the position set by the cable length.

TL;DR: In this article, a selection switch is provided to the camera body of a camera bottom plate to select the 2nd photographic state when the camera is removed from the tripod and carried in a hand.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To change shutter speeds in a short period by changing limit set values or the set values only in a range higher the limit set values when the 2nd photographic state is selected by a selecting means. CONSTITUTION:A selection switch 10 which constitutes the selecting means is provided to the camera body 12 of a camera bottom plate 8 nearby a tripod fitting screw 9. When the camera is fitted on a tripod, the selection switch 10 is energized all the time, so the 1st photographic state is selected automatically and shutter speeds from 1/4,000sec to 30sec and a valve and a time mode are all settable. When the camera is detached from the tripod and carried in a hand and the selection switch 10 is not operated, the 2nd photographic state is selected automatically. Then, shutter speeds are changed only within the range of shutter speed faster then 1/8sec and shutter speeds slower than 1/8sec and the valve and time modes are inhibited from being set.

TL;DR: In this article, a double-tripod with two sets of 3D-scanning mechanisms in one tripod is presented. But it is only used as a 3D positioner for a selection of the scan window.
Abstract: We report a new type of a three-dimensional (3D) mechanical translator, i.e., a double tripod which has two sets of 3D-scanning mechanisms in one tripod. For elements of the double tripod, we used multilayer piezoelectric actuators whose electrodes were cut into two parts with displacement/voltage constants with different orders of magnitude: A~1070 A/V and B~108 A/V. By measuring a series of STM images with the double tripod, we showed that the additional SD-scanning mechanism is useful as a 3D-positioner for a selection of the scan window.

TL;DR: In this article, a drive mechanism for a lens unit with a tripod mount is described, where the tripod is mounted on a stationary cylinder while the camera mount is on a rotatable cylinder which contains a drive shaft for mechanically driving a lens axially movable along the stationary cylinder.
Abstract: A drive mechanism for a lens unit with a tripod mount. The tripod mount is on a stationary cylinder while the camera mount is on a rotatable cylinder which contains a drive shaft for mechanically driving a lens axially movable along the stationary cylinder. A drive gear supported by the stationary cylinder causes the linear movement of lens by its rotation. A planetary gear system, coupled to the stationary cylinder connects the drive shaft and the drive gear.
