TL;DR: In this paper, a video disc record of the constant angular velocity type (CAV) includes a spiral groove of constant pitch formed in a band on a surface thereof, which has a substantially constant nominal vertical dimension and vertical displacements which taper monotonically from an outer radius of the band to an inner radius.
Abstract: A video disc record of the constant angular velocity type (CAV) includes a spiral groove of constant pitch formed in a band on a surface thereof. The groove has a substantially constant nominal vertical dimension and vertical displacements which taper monotonically from an outer radius of the band to an inner radius. One component of the vertical displacement of the groove conveys an FM carrier wave of constant amplitude and relatively high frequency representative of picture information. A second component of the vertical displacement conveys one or more lower frequency FM carrier waves representative of sound information. The amplitude of the second component varies monotonically as a function of the groove radius within the record band to provide a disc having an improved audio FM carrier-to-noise ratio with no substantial perceptible increase in undesirable sound beat effects in images displayed when the disc is played. A mastering system exemplary of the method of forming the grooved disc includes variable gain units in an audio FM carrier wave processing path of the system.

TL;DR: In this paper, an endless screw is driven by a digitally controlled motor to enable the horizontal shaft of a chuck to turn and to move vertically upwards or downwards, and a computer program ensures that the processor determines the vertical displacement and the angle required from cartesian data reference to a reference point.
Abstract: A carriage (13) slides in vertical slides fixed to a second carriage. This slides on horizontal slides (11) fixed to a vertical face of a block (12). Rotation of a drum (14) in the first carriage is ensured by driving a tangential wheel which engages an endless screw. The screw is driven by a digitally controlled motor. This allows the horizontal shaft of a chuck (15) to turn and to move vertically upwards or downwards. This action defines a surface area with two parallel segments with semi circular ends. The computer program ensures that the processor determines the vertical displacement and the angle required from cartesian data reference to a reference point. The processor determines any corrections to be applied. The arrangement may be used with e.g. tools for boring, e.g. countersinking.

TL;DR: The Characteristics of three types of buccal canine retraction springs are investigated and it is found that by careful attention to geometry, it is possible to design a spring with acceptable clinical properties.
Abstract: The force-displacement characteristics of three types of buccal-canine retraction spring to both horizontal (normal) and vertical displacements is derived from simple beam theory. The analyses are used to examine theoretically the effect of variations in the geometry of a given type of spring and also to compare the merits of three designs in terms of the force applied on activation, and their stability to vertical displacement. Experimental measurements on enlarged models of the force—displacement behaviour were in good agreement with the values predicted by the derived equations.

TL;DR: In this article, a car body and a differential case using an elastic body that is sheared and deformed for the vertical and horizontal displacement and an auxiliary elastic body 14 is provided between both brackets 7 and 10.
Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the characteristics of a spring by coupling a car body and a differential case using an elastic body that is sheared and deformed for the vertical and horizontal displacement and an elastic body that is sheared, compressed, and deformed for the vertical displacement and that is sheared and deformed for the horizontal displacement. CONSTITUTION: A first elastic body 12 is provided at an opposed location that is parallel to the horizontal direction between first and second brackets 7 and 10. This first elastic body 12 is sheared and deformed for the vertical and horizontal displacement and is compressed and deformed for the vertical displacement. In addition, a second elastic body 13 is provided at an opposed direction that is parallel to the tilting direction between the said both brackets 7 and 10. This second elastic body 13 is sheared, compressed, and deformed for the vertical and horizontal displacement and is sheared and deformed for the horizontal displacement. Furthermore, an auxiliary elastic body 14 is provided between both brackets 7 and 10. Then the bracket 7 adheres to a differential crossmember 5 and the bracket 10 adheres to a differential housing 6. COPYRIGHT: (C)1984,JPO&Japio

TL;DR: In this paper, the shape of the free surface on the upper and lower boundaries of an initially rectangular, incompressible linearly viscoelastic block when the block is sheared at the vertical sidewall is solved using biorthogonal series of the Fadle-Papkovich type.
Abstract: We obtain solutions for the shape of the free surface on the upper and lower boundaries of an initially rectangular, incompressible linearly viscoelastic block when the block is sheared at the vertical sidewall. To solve the problem when the vertical displacement of the sidewall is prescribed we use biorthogonal series of the Fadle–Papkovich type. The series has a point of novelty in that zero is an algebraically double but geometrically simple eigenvalue. To expand arbitrary vector fields with two components it is necessary to include in the series the proper and generalized eigenvectors belonging to zero.

TL;DR: In this paper, a rotary member of a volume 16 of a car is rotated clockwise about the radial axis 15 of a shaft 13 as the shaft 13 rotates clockwise as the volume 16 has the resistance value increased by input voltage applied from a lead wire 21 and permits an electric circuit and compressor to supply fluid to a shock absorber with the raised output voltage of a leadwire 22 to raise the car body for levelling the car height.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To ensure levelling of car height in reference to relative displacement due to a load, by sensing a relative vertical displacement between gaps above and below a spring. CONSTITUTION:When the body side of a car is lowered, a rotary member 17 of a volume 16 revolves clockwise about the radial axis 15 of a shaft 13 as the shaft 13 rotates clockwise. Thus, the volume 16 has the resistance value increased by input voltage applied from a lead wire 21 and permits an electric circuit and compressor to supply fluid to a shock absorber with the raised output voltage of a lead wire 22 to raise the car body for levelling the car height. When the car body side is elevated, similar reverse operation is carried out to discharge fluid from the shock absorber to lower the car body for levelling the car height.

Abstract: The vertical drill has a support stand with a horizontal work table at its base and supporting a drill head moved vertically along the stand. The drill head incorporates a hand wheel, rotated to control the vertical displacement, an electric drive motor and a driven tool shaft. The drive motor comprises a DC motor with a permanent magnet rotor which is supplied from the AC network via a rectifier. The latter is in series with a setting control allowing adjustment of the motor rotation rate. Pref. the motor is incorporated in the drill head between the driven shaft and the stand, with a mechanical transmission between the motor and the shaft. The DC motor is compact and has a precise rotation rate for obtaining high quality bore holes.

TL;DR: In this article, a pair of arms can follow the up and down movement of floats and can be deformed owing to the variation in the liquid level in a measuring tank, providing resistance wire strain gages on the upper and lower surfaces of the arms, and assembling two sets of Wheastone bridges.
Abstract: PURPOSE:To sense vertical displacement and inclined displacement by providing a pair of arms which can follow the up and down movement of floats and can be deformed owing to the variation in the liquid level in a measuring tank, providing resistance wire strain gages on the upper and lower surfaces of the arms, and assembling two sets of Wheastone bridges CONSTITUTION:When the meauring tank 2 which is communicated with a reference tank 1 by a communicating pipe 3 sinks in the vertical direction, the liquid level in the tank 2 rises up, and both floats 4 and 4 float up Therefore the upper surfaces of both arms 5 and 5 are compressed and the lower surfaces are subjected to tension Therefore the resistance wire strain gage 6, which is provided on the upper surfaces of the arms 5 and 5 and constitutes the Wheastone bridge 7 provided in the tank 1, is compressed, and the resistance value is decreased The resistance value of the resistance wire strain gage 6 provided on the lower surfaces is increased by tension Therefore, the output which is proportional to the sinking amount is generated in the bridge 7 The output of the bridge 8 is not changed When the inclined displacement occurs, the output of the bridge 7 is not changed, but the output which is proportional to the inclination is generated in the bridge 8 In this constitution, the vertical displacement and the inclined displacement can be sensed

Abstract: The adjustment system for a mirror is designed to allow rapid and universal positioning. The mirror (5) is mounted on the surface of an elastic membrane (4). Beneath the membrane is a matrix of converters (2) that respond to electrical signals to provide a vertical displacement. Each displacement element is separated from the adjacent ones by an isolating layer. Each surface of the elements has a contact foil that is connected to a controlled voltage source. By applying voltages to specific cells the mirror position may be adjusted.

TL;DR: In this article, a throughput meter for liquids and gases is made and can be used for measuring small throughputs under adverse operating conditions, such as high temperature, high humidity, and high humidity.
Abstract: A throughput meter for liquids and gases is simple and cheap to make and can be used for measuring small throughputs under adverse operating conditions. The liquid or gas passes vertically upwards through a housing with inlet (7) and outlet (8) pipes and a displacement body (15) of conical section projecting downward into the circular inlet aperture. The top of the displacement body is connected to a metal cylindrical casing (14) enclosing a circularly cylindrical coil (10) with a small gap between coil and casing and so that the casing moves easily up and down. The electrical connections of the coil are fed out of the housing to enable measurement of the apparent resistance of the coil, which varies with the height of the metal casing.
