Journal ArticleDOI
Ballistic contributions to heat-pulse propagation in the TFTR tokamak.
E.D. Fredrickson,K. M. McGuire,A. Cavallo,Robert Budny,A. Janos,D. A. Monticello,Yoshio Nagayama,W. Park,G. Taylor,M. C. Zarnstorff +9 more
TL;DR: It is shown that the relaxation of this {ital extended} perturbation is consistent with the power-balance estimates of the local thermal diffusivity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of High-Power Ion Bernstein Waves on a Tokamak Plasma
Masayuki Ono,P. Beiersdorfer,R. E. Bell,S. Bernabei,A. Cavallo,A. Chmyga,Samuel A. Cohen,P. Colestock,G. M. Gammel,G. J. Greene,J. C. Hosea,Robert Kaita,I. Lehrman,G. Mazzitelli,E. Mazzucato,D. McNeill,K. Sato,J. Stevens,J. Timberlake,James R. Wilson,A. Wouters +20 more
TL;DR: Ion Bernstein wave heating (IBWH) has been investigated on PLT with up to 650 kW of rf power coupled to the plasma, exceeding the ohmic power of 550 kW.
Journal ArticleDOI
Analysis of sawtooth oscillations using simultaneous measurement of electron cyclotron emission imaging and x-ray tomography on TFTR.
Yoshio Nagayama,K. M. McGuire,Manfred Bitter,A. Cavallo,E.D. Fredrickson,K. W. Hill,H. Hsuan,A. Janos,W. Park,G. Taylor,Masaaki Yamada +10 more
TL;DR: The results suggest that the sawtooth crash is a full reconnection process for the TFTR sawteeth, and the crescent-shaped «hot spot» in the x-ray emissivity is found not to represent flux surfaces.
Journal ArticleDOI
RF experiments on PLT
J. Hosea,James R. Wilson,W. Hooke,M. Ono,E. Mazzucato,R.E. Bell,S. Bernabei,A. Cavallo,T. K. Chu,Samuel Cohen,P. Colestock,G. M. Gammel,G. J. Greene,Gregory W. Hammett,H. Hsuan,Robert Kaita,D. McNeill,R.W. Motley,K. Sato,J. Stevens,S. Suckewer,S. von Goeler,A. Wouters +22 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a variety of RF experiments are conducted on PLT in order to explore RF techniques which could improve Tokamak performance parameters, such as ion Bernstein wave (IBW) heating, lower hybrid MHD stabilization and electron heating, down-shifted electron cyclotron heating, and fast wave current drive.
Journal ArticleDOI
Disruptions in TFTR
A. Janos,E.D. Fredrickson,M. Corneliussen,K. M. McGuire,M.G. Bell,A. Cavallo,Yoshio Nagayama,D.K. Owens,M. Ulrickson +8 more
TL;DR: In this article, the processes during disruptions of plasmas in the Tokamak Fusion Test Reactor (TFTR), including precursor phenomena, and the resulting effects which are of concern in future devices, such as heat loads and runaways, are addressed.
