Compact hexa-band bio-inspired antenna using asymmetric microstrip feeding technique for wireless applications.

The rapid development of wireless technology has sparked interest in multi-band reconfigurable antennas as devices and satellites are innovating toward miniaturization. With limited space, reliable and efficient high bandwidth antenna systems are needed for current and next-generation wireless technology as well as for the revolutionary small satellites. The fifth generation of mobile communication technology promises high data rates, low latency and good spectrum efficiency. One of the key enablers of this technology is the integration of satellite technology-particularly CubeSats with terrestrial communication technologies. Next-generation antennas that can meet functional requirements for 5G and CubeSat applications are therefore of fundamental importance. These antenna systems should have large bandwidth, high gain and efficiency and be compact in size. Reconfigurable antennas can provide different configurations in terms of the operating frequency, radiation pattern and polarization. Tuning reconfigurable antennas can be done by changing the physical parameters of the antenna elements through electronic switches, optical switches and the use of meta-materials. The most popular implementation method for reconfigurable antennas for wireless and satellite communication is the electronic switching method due to its high reliability, efficiency, and ease of integration with microwave circuitry. In this article, different techniques for implementing reconfigurable antennas are reviewed, with emphasis on two main application areas; 5G wireless communication and CubeSat application. Different reconfiguration techniques have been studied for application in various wireless communication systems such as satellite communication, multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, cognitive radio and 5G communication. It has been found that reconfigurable antennas have favourable properties for next-generation wireless technology and small satellites. These properties include low cost, less volume requirements and good isolation between wireless standards.

Multi-Band Reconfigurable Antennas For 5G Wireless and CubeSat Applications: A Review

This proposal presents a design of compact MIMO antenna array for a mobile phone to be used in 5G cellular mobile communication. Main focus of this work is to design an MIMO antenna system which can resonate at particular frequencies as per the requirement. A mobile handset antenna supporting wide frequency range is essential exploratory issue. This paper manifests an antenna resonating at 1.5G Hz, 2.2 GHz and 28 GHZ frequency in the wide upper band 10–30 GHz, which is an expected resonance frequency for future 5G mobile communication. Gain value of 6.622 dBi, 7.35 dBi, and 6.01 dBi at 28 GHz, 2.2 GHz, and 1.5 GHz respectively, are achieved. Higher frequency radiation effect will be more on user, so radiator is placed at bottom edge of the mobile system board. SAR values at different frequencies: at 2.2 GHz it is 0.471 W/Kg, at 1.5 GHz value is 0.205 W/Kg.

MIMO antenna system with high gain and low SAR at for UE of 5G operating MM wave: Design

This study presents a double-inverse-epsilon-shaped, triple-band epsilon-negative (ENG) metamaterial with two split ring resonators (SRRs). The proposed unit cell comprises a single slit two SRRs with two inverse-epsilon-shaped metal bits. Rogers RT6002, of dimension 10 × 10 × 1.524 mm3, is used as a substrate. An electromagnetic simulator CST microwave studio is used to investigate the effective medium parameters of the material. The proposed metamaterial shows three resonance peaks that are demarcated at the frequencies 2.38 GHz, 4.55 GHz and 9.42 GHz consecutively. The negative permittivity of the metamaterial is observed at the frequency ranges of 2.39–2.62 GHz, 4.55–4.80 GHz and 9.42–10.25 GHz. The goodness of the material was presented by the effective medium ratio (EMR) of the unit cell at 12.61. In addition, the simulated results are authenticated by using different electromagnetic simulators such as HFSS and ADS for the equivalent circuit model, which exhibits insignificant disparity. The anticipated scheme was finalised through some parametric analyses, together with configuration optimisation, different unit cell dimensions, several substrate materials, and altered electromagnetic (EM) field transmissions. The proposed triple band (S-, C- and X-bands) with negative permittivity (ε) metamaterial is practically used for numerous wireless uses, for instance, far distance radar communication, satellite communication bands and microwave communication.

A New Compact Split Ring Resonator Based Double Inverse Epsilon Shaped Metamaterial for Triple Band Satellite and Radar Communication

A penta band loaded with complementary octagonal split ring resonator (COSRR) is reported. The antenna has a size of 0.16λ l × 0.16λ l × 0.01λ l , at lower frequency band of 3.33 GHz. The antenna consists of a rectangular slot is placed in the ground plane and complementary octagonal split ring resonator in the radiating patch, which independently resonates lower frequency at 3.33 GHz and other four bands at 5.01GHz, 5.28GHz, 7.46GHz, and 9.48GHz respectively. The designed antenna operates at 3.33, 5.01, 5.28, 7.46 and 9.48 GHz. It is observed that the proposed structure is having better impedance matching, gain, efficiency and stable radiation pattern at targeted frequencies and used for Wi-MAX, WLAN, Satellite band and X-band applications.

Frequency reconfigurable lte antenna with u shaped open end for portable wireless devices

A low profile antenna array is designed in this work to support multiple bands for high data rates. Antenna array consists of main antenna and auxiliary antenna. Main antenna meant for long term evolution (LTE)/wireless wide area network (WWAN) application. Auxiliary antenna is used to increase the bandwidth. Proposed antenna array with low profile supports the LTE-700, GSM-850, GSM-900, GSM-1800, GSM-1900, UMTS-1900, UMTS-2100, LTE-2300, and LTE-2500. Coupled feed loop and monopole type elements are embedded in antenna array to get wide lower and upper bands. Chip inductor is used in the design to minimize the physical length required for desired resonant modes. Both the antennas together provide the constructional requirements to get the LTE MIMO operation. The radiating strips are shorted to the ground plane to achieve the required bandwidth. Folded radiating strips are also employed in the design for the low profile so that the proposed antenna arrangement may be best suitable for modern mobiles in which the area occupied by each element is a very important design metric.
