Compact hexa-band bio-inspired antenna using asymmetric microstrip feeding technique for wireless applications.

This study presents a double-inverse-epsilon-shaped, triple-band epsilon-negative (ENG) metamaterial with two split ring resonators (SRRs). The proposed unit cell comprises a single slit two SRRs with two inverse-epsilon-shaped metal bits. Rogers RT6002, of dimension 10 × 10 × 1.524 mm3, is used as a substrate. An electromagnetic simulator CST microwave studio is used to investigate the effective medium parameters of the material. The proposed metamaterial shows three resonance peaks that are demarcated at the frequencies 2.38 GHz, 4.55 GHz and 9.42 GHz consecutively. The negative permittivity of the metamaterial is observed at the frequency ranges of 2.39–2.62 GHz, 4.55–4.80 GHz and 9.42–10.25 GHz. The goodness of the material was presented by the effective medium ratio (EMR) of the unit cell at 12.61. In addition, the simulated results are authenticated by using different electromagnetic simulators such as HFSS and ADS for the equivalent circuit model, which exhibits insignificant disparity. The anticipated scheme was finalised through some parametric analyses, together with configuration optimisation, different unit cell dimensions, several substrate materials, and altered electromagnetic (EM) field transmissions. The proposed triple band (S-, C- and X-bands) with negative permittivity (ε) metamaterial is practically used for numerous wireless uses, for instance, far distance radar communication, satellite communication bands and microwave communication.

A New Compact Split Ring Resonator Based Double Inverse Epsilon Shaped Metamaterial for Triple Band Satellite and Radar Communication

A compact 15 mm × 15 mm multi-band metamaterial-inspiredprinted antenna, composed of a simple microstrip antenna and a metamaterial superstate, is developed to accommodate nowadays advanced wireless communication devices and networks, where multi-functional tasks are simultaneously performed in different frequency ranges efficiently. A quintuple homocentric circular split ring resonator is explicitly designed as a band enhancer metamaterial superstate. The metamaterial geometry and orientation associated with the antenna location and radiating are optimized for the greatest consequence, where the resonances electrically and magnetically couple with the antenna radiation, generating quintuple bands in the X band: 8–12 GHz. The main lobe directions indicate an excellent directional propagation. This metamaterial-inspired antenna was designed and fabricated using a low cost commercial FR4 substrate offering a good cost margin for potential mass production. Four of five bands have a gain greater than 6dBi, which can be improved by using low-loss substrate. The measured and simulated results are in good agreement.

Metamaterial-inspired quintuple band printed patch antenna for dense communication networks

A compact dual-band ram horn-like folded antenna is presented in this work. The antenna is based on a ram horn-like folded strip, asymmetric microstrip feeding (AMF) technique, partial ground, and protruding stub at the ground plane. The dimension of the proposed antenna is 0.11  × 0.17 at 2.3 GHz (10 × 15 mm2). The proposed shape is achieved through the combination of two circular arcs with different radii. The antenna operates at 2.3 GHz and 5.8 GHz with a measured bandwidth of 100 MHz and 820 MHz, a gain of 0.62 dBi and 2.2 dBi, and radiation efficiency of 93.67% and 99.87%, respectively. The prototype of the proposed antenna is fabricated and measured. The measured result shows a good agreement with the simulated result. The parametric study of the proposed antenna is performed and results are presented. Besides, a comparative study between the antennas proposed in this work and the state of the art is performed and presented. The proposed antenna is comparatively small in size than all the recently reported works in the literature while ensuring good radiation characteristics. Therefore, the antenna proposed in this work is a better candidate for future portable sub-6GHz fifth-generation (5G), Advance Long-term Evolution (LTE-A), Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX), and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) applications.

Miniature devices are becoming increasingly demanded as fifth-generation (5G) technology is been deployed. This has necessitated the need to miniaturize all the various components of 5G enabling systems. It is a well-known fact that without the antenna, there is no wireless communication as it forms the link between the space and the wired network. Hence, the miniaturization of the antenna will contribute to the miniaturization of the entire wireless system.  . The proposed antenna is etched on a rogers (RT5880) substrate and fed with a 50 Ω asymmetric microstrip feedline. The proposed OBS antenna is fabricated and measured. In addition, the equivalent circuit of the proposed OBS antenna is designed and analyzed using AWR®. The antenna operates at a center frequency of 1.85 GHz and 5.89 GHz with an impedance bandwidth of 10.41% and 36.29%, respectively, which means that the first and second bands are narrow and wide bands, respectively. Furthermore, the mean peak gain of the proposed OBS antenna at lower and upper bands are 4.1 dB and 3.95 dB, respectively. More so, the radiation pattern antenna shows a quasiomnidirectional at E-plane and omnidirectional at H-plane. There is a good agreement between simulated and measured results. Therefore, the proposed OBS antenna is a suitable candidate for future portable mobile devices.

Miniaturized Dual-Band Antenna for GSM1800, WLAN, and Sub-6 GHz 5G Portable Mobile Devices

A penta band loaded with complementary octagonal split ring resonator (COSRR) is reported. The antenna has a size of 0.16λ l × 0.16λ l × 0.01λ l , at lower frequency band of 3.33 GHz. The antenna consists of a rectangular slot is placed in the ground plane and complementary octagonal split ring resonator in the radiating patch, which independently resonates lower frequency at 3.33 GHz and other four bands at 5.01GHz, 5.28GHz, 7.46GHz, and 9.48GHz respectively. The designed antenna operates at 3.33, 5.01, 5.28, 7.46 and 9.48 GHz. It is observed that the proposed structure is having better impedance matching, gain, efficiency and stable radiation pattern at targeted frequencies and used for Wi-MAX, WLAN, Satellite band and X-band applications.
