TL;DR: In this article, the authors performed model calculations to obtain photocurrents, resulting from sub-band gap adsorption, in a thin passive film and showed that at high fields, which correspond to moderate potential drops in the passive film, the escape probability is increased due to tunneling contributions.

TL;DR: The dependence of the photocurrent on the potential was found to follow the Poole-Frenkel behavior for the most heavily implanted film as mentioned in this paper, which can be explained by a tunnelling mechanism of the electron against the field.
