Role of alkaline phosphatase in colitis in man and rats
A Tuin,Klaas Poelstra,A. de Jager-Krikken,Lisette Bok,W. Raaben,M. P. Velders,Gerard Dijkstra +6 more
TL;DR: The rat model demonstrates that oral administration of active iAP enzymes in the intestinal tract results in a significant reduction of inflammation, which provides new insight on IBD pathology and a novel treatment approach to this severe inflammatory disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
On the role and fate of LPS-dephosphorylating activity in the rat liver.
A Tuin,Ali Huizinga-Van der Vlag,Anne-miek van Loenen-Weemaes,Dirk K. F. Meijer,Klaas Poelstra +4 more
TL;DR: It is shown that LPS enhances AP expression in hepatocytes and that intestinal AP is rapidly taken up by these same cells, leading to an attenuation of LPS-induced responses in vivo, which may be a protective mechanism within the liver.
Journal ArticleDOI
A new technique for preparing precision-cut slices from small intestine and colon for drug biotransformation studies.
Ruben de Kanter,A Tuin,Esther G. van de Kerkhof,Marcella Martignoni,Annelies L. Draaisma,Marina H. de Jager,Inge A. M. de Graaf,Dirk K. F. Meijer,Geny M. M. Groothuis +8 more
TL;DR: It is concluded that preparing precision-cut 0.25 mm slices out of agarose-filled and -embedded intestine provides an improvement, compared with punched-out tissue, and that both intestinal and colon slices are useful preparations for in vitro biotransformation studies.
