TL;DR: In this article, an attempt has been made to address barriers in GLS product development (GLSPD) from an extensive literature review and from experts' opinions towards developing a hierarchical model structuring these barriers.
Abstract: In today’s competitive globalised business environment, production cost cutting is a primary issue before operation managers. As a research area, green lean six sigma (GLS) is proposed to have strategic importance in product development towards cutting costs, contributing to optimisation, and achieving sustainability. This research requirement has been realised to draw benefits out of three recent and involved approaches (green, lean and six sigma). In this research, an attempt has been made to address barriers in GLS product development (GLSPD) from an extensive literature review and from experts’ opinions towards developing a hierarchical model structuring these barriers. Twenty-one barriers have been identified and sorted from the review of literature and were then validated through discussions with experts. Relationships (contextual in nature) among these barriers have been realised during a brainstorming session. An interpretive structural modelling (ISM) technique has been utilised for devel...

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used the qualitative research technique to study the critical factors which affect the integration of sustainability with innovation taking into account Indian manufacturing SMEs, and with the help of Fuzzy Micmac technique, driver dependence power diagraph is created.
Abstract: The growth of any country depends upon the existence of small- and medium-scale enterprises (SMEs). The greater the number of SMEs present in any country, the economy of the country increases in the same proportion. This paper uses the qualitative research technique to study the critical factors which affect the integration of sustainability with innovation taking into account Indian manufacturing SMEs. An ISM approach is applied to establish the interrelationship between the various critical factors. And with the help of Fuzzy Micmac technique, driver dependence power diagraph is created. From our analysis, it has been found that “government regulation” has the highest dominating power which helps in successful execution of integrating sustainability with innovation. Variables “employee nature” and “working culture” have the highest dependence power. The success of these variables depends on the success of the variables below them. Finally, the limitations of using the above techniques are discus...

TL;DR: In this article, the authors investigated possible factors of resistance or support by knowledge workers to the sharing of knowledge within an organization and explored the relationship among knowledge sharing factors with competitiveness from the available research.
Abstract: The knowledge-based view of organizational behavior emphasizes the importance of knowledge for organizations to retain their competitive advantage. Thus, the success of knowledge sharing is important because, if successful, it results in shared intellectual capital. Knowledge is one of the most important assets of a business which influence competitiveness, thus we need to understand the relationship between knowledge sharing and competitiveness. This study investigates possible factors of resistance or support by knowledge workers to the sharing of knowledge within an organization. Further the relationship among knowledge sharing factors with competitiveness has been explored from the available research. Based on the study of various organizations it is found that the existing knowledge is not being effectively disseminated throughout the organization, resulting in lost productivity and opportunity as a result of failure to exploit available knowledge. Major factors of Knowledge-Sharing (KS), which are important to improve the competitiveness of organizations in international business, were identified, and an integrated model of these factors has been developed using interpretive structural modeling (ISM). The developed model has been further improved with the application of fuzzy MICMAC. The generated model may help in better sharing of knowledge in organizations and will help in correlating with competitiveness.

TL;DR: In this paper, a single numerical benchmarking index utilizing graph theory and matrix (GTM) method is proposed to evaluate the bullwhip effect mitigation factors in supply chain management.
Abstract: Article history: Received April 20, 2015 Received in revised format October 10, 2015 Accepted October 15 2015 Available online October 16 2015 Bullwhip effect is one of the serious problems caused by uncertainty in supply chain management. Graph theoretical approach has been utilized by some of the authors towards evaluation of various phenomena performance. This paper has been an attempt to develop bullwhip effect mitigation index (BWEMI), which is a single numerical benchmarking index utilizing graph theory and matrix (GTM) method. Review of literature and subsequent discussions with experts to obtain their valuable opinions regarding managing supply chains have been utilized to complement and supplement the variables. Digraph theory has been used to develop various matrices showing interactions among bullwhip effect mitigation factors. The tool so developed may help supply chain managers to analyze and quantify efforts towards bullwhip effect mitigation. Growing Science Ltd. All rights reserved. 6 © 201

TL;DR: An attempt has been made to identify Critical Factors (CFs) and rank these for effective III from an Indian perspective and the proposed decision framework may offer some valuable guidelines for policy makers to develop their plan of action.
Abstract: The management of Industry-Institute Interactions (III) has been found to be an important aspect in today’s market. In this paper an attempt has been made to identify Critical Factors (CFs) and rank these for effective III from an Indian perspective. The present paper is based on two research stages. Initially, an extensive literature review was conducted to identify CFs of III. Forty three CFs for effective III were identified and categorized into nine dimensions based on input from experts. In the second stage, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) was utilized to rank these dimensions and CFs for effective III from an Indian perspective. Paired comparisons in AHP were based on the opinions of experts (selected from academia and industry). The proposed decision framework may offer some valuable guidelines for policy makers to develop their plan of action in terms of design of short and long term policies and strategies to promote effective III in India. A sensitivity analysis was also performed to investigate the robustness and priority ranking stability of CFs in the proposed framework. This paper may help India to achieve and manage effective III leading to potential economic, social, political, cultural and environmental advantages.

TL;DR: In this paper, the first and second law efficiency decreases due to the increase in the effectiveness of regenerator and this increase in effectiveness leads to an increase of the temperature of air coming out of the regenerator which further results in increase of fuel air mixture intake temperature which finally reduces the work output and efficiency of the engine.
Abstract: In this study, our objective is to computationally analyse the wet ethanol operated homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine to evaluate its first and second law efficiency and observe these results by varying effectiveness of regenerator. The paper concludes that the first and second law efficiency decreases due to the increase in the effectiveness of regenerator. This increase in effectiveness leads to an increase in the temperature of air coming out of the regenerator. It further results in increase of the fuel air mixture intake temperature which finally reduces the work output and efficiency of the engine. Furthermore, the method of exergy analysis has been applied and evaluated. This study indicates that due to domination of chemical exergy destruction in combustion reaction in these systems, maximum exergy is destroyed in HCCI engine and to a lesser extent in catalytic converter. These findings will help in the design of such system for optimum result.
