Journal ArticleDOI
Tight junction proteins.
TL;DR: Advances in the knowledge of the molecular structure of TJ support previous physiological models that exhibited TJ as dynamic structures that present distinct permeability and morphological characteristics in different tissues and in response to changing natural, pathological or experimental conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
MAGUK proteins: structure and role in the tight junction.
TL;DR: The modular organization of these proteins allows them to function as scaffolds, which associate to transmembrane TJ proteins, the cytoskeleton and signal transduction molecules, where they may regulate gene expression.
Journal ArticleDOI
The tight junction protein ZO-2 associates with Jun, Fos and C/EBP transcription factors in epithelial cells
Abigail Betanzos,Miriam Huerta,Esther López-Bayghen,Elisa Azuara,José Amerena,Lorenza González-Mariscal +5 more
TL;DR: It is observed that both the amino and the carboxyl domains are capable of inhibiting gene transcription in ZO-2, which is a multidomain protein.
Journal ArticleDOI
Effects of phenol on barrier function of a human intestinal epithelial cell line correlate with altered tight junction protein localization.
Ingrid C. McCall,Abigail Betanzos,Dominique A. Weber,Porfirio Nava,Gary W. Miller,Charles A. Parkos +5 more
TL;DR: Overall, these findings suggest that phenol may affect transiently the lipid bilayer of the cell membrane, thus destabilizing TJ-containing microdomains.
Journal ArticleDOI
Characterization of the tight junction protein ZO-2 localized at the nucleus of epithelial cells.
Blanca Estela Jaramillo,Arturo Ponce,Jacqueline Moreno,Abigail Betanzos,Miriam Huerta,Esther López-Bayghen,Lorenza González-Mariscal +6 more
TL;DR: ZO-2 is a MAGUK protein that in confluent epithelial sheets localizes at tight junctions (TJ) whereas in sparse cultures accumulates in clusters at the nucleus and is observed to be present in the nuclear matrix and co-immunoprecipitates with lamin B(1) and actin from the nuclei of sparse cultures.
