Journal ArticleDOI
Omega-6 polyunsaturated fatty acids prevent atherosclerosis development in LDLr-KO mice, in spite of displaying a pro-inflammatory profile similar to trans fatty acids
Roberta Marcondes Machado,Edna Regina Nakandakare,Eder Carlos da Rocha Quintão,Patrícia M. Cazita,Marcia Kiyomi Koike,Valéria S. Nunes,F.D. Ferreira,Milessa Silva Afonso,Renata P.A. Bombo,Adriana Machado-Lima,Francisco Garcia Soriano,Sergio Catanozi,Ana Maria Lottenberg +12 more
TL;DR: PUFA intake prevented atherosclerosis, even in a pro-inflammatory condition, and macrophage inflammatory response to lipopolysaccharide from Escherichia coli (LPS).
Journal ArticleDOI
Advanced glycated albumin isolated from poorly controlled type 1 diabetes mellitus patients alters macrophage gene expression impairing ABCA-1-mediated reverse cholesterol transport.
Adriana Machado-Lima,Rodrigo T. Iborra,R. S. Pinto,Camila H. Sartori,Erika R. Oliveira,Edna Regina Nakandakare,José Tadeu Stefano,Daniel Giannella-Neto,Maria Lúcia Corrêa-Giannella,Marisa Passarelli +9 more
TL;DR: The effects of albumin isolated from control individuals and from patients with poorly controlled type 1 diabetes mellitus on macrophage gene expression and on reverse cholesterol transport are evaluated.
Journal ArticleDOI
Advanced Glycation in macrophages induces intracellular accumulation of 7-ketocholesterol and total sterols by decreasing the expression of ABCA-1 and ABCG-1
Rodrigo T. Iborra,Adriana Machado-Lima,Gabriela Castilho,Valéria S. Nunes,Dulcinéia Saes Parra Abdalla,Edna Regina Nakandakare,Marisa Passarelli +6 more
TL;DR: In macrophages overloaded with oxidized LDL, glycolaldehyde treatment reduces the HDL-mediated cholesterol and 7-ketocholesterol efflux which is ascribed to the reduction in ABCA-1 and ABCG-1 protein level, which may contribute to atherosclerosis in diabetes mellitus.
Journal ArticleDOI
In type 2 diabetes mellitus glycated albumin alters macrophage gene expression impairing ABCA1-mediated cholesterol efflux †
Adriana Machado-Lima,Rodrigo T. Iborra,R. S. Pinto,Gabriela Castilho,Camila H. Sartori,Erika R. Oliveira,L. S. Okuda,Edna Regina Nakandakare,Daniel Giannella-Neto,Ubiratan Fabres Machado,Maria Lúcia Corrêa-Giannella,Pietro Traldi,Simona Porcu,Marco Roverso,Annunziata Lapolla,Marisa Passarelli +15 more
TL;DR: The level of glycation that occurs in vivo in DM2‐HSA‐treated cells selectively alters macrophage gene expression, impairing cholesterol efflux and eliciting intracellular lipid accumulation, which contribute to atherogenesis, in individuals with DM2.
Journal ArticleDOI
Aerobic exercise training enhances the in vivo cholesterol trafficking from macrophages to the liver independently of changes in the expression of genes involved in lipid flux in macrophages and aorta
Paula Ramos Pinto,D. D. F. M. Rocco,L. S. Okuda,Adriana Machado-Lima,Gabriela Castilho,Karolline S. da Silva,Diego Gomes,R. S. Pinto,Rodrigo T. Iborra,Guilherme da Silva Ferreira,Edna Regina Nakandakare,Ubiratan Fabres Machado,Maria Lúcia Corrêa-Giannella,Sergio Catanozi,Marisa Passarelli +14 more
TL;DR: Aerobic exercise in vivo accelerates the traffic of cholesterol from macrophages to the liver contributing to prevention and regression of atherosclerosis, independently of changes in macrophage and aorta gene expression.
