Effects of organic matter on the physical and the physicochemical properties of an illitic soil

TL;DR: In this article, the effects of organic matter on the physical and physicochemical properties of illitic soils were investigated using a Grain Size Analyzer (GSA) with specific surface area measurement, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), and Infrared Spectroscopy (IR).
Journal ArticleDOI

Tension tests on smooth and rough model piles in dry sand

TL;DR: In this paper, a testing program comprising 64 pullout tests was conducted on open and closed piles in dry sand to delineate the significant variables affecting the ultimate uplift shaft resistance.
Journal ArticleDOI

Modelling load–displacement response of driven piles in cohesionless soils under tensile loading

TL;DR: In this paper, a new methodology for deriving the uplift load-displacement response of long driven piles in cohesionless soils is proposed, which accounts for the effects of the friction fatigue processes during pile driving and the existence of locked-in residual stresses at the end of pile driving before commencing the pile load test.
Journal ArticleDOI

Micropile technique to control upward movement of lightweight structures over expansive soils

TL;DR: In this article, a simplified analytical formulation for the mechanism by which micropiles surrounded by compacted sand control the upward movement of lightweight buildings over expansive soils is presented, which identifies the significant variables influencing the performance of micropile reinforcement.
