Improving tensile strength and bend ductility of titanium/AlSI 304L stainless steel friction welds

TL;DR: In this paper, the metallurgical and mechanical properties of friction welds between titanium and AISI 304L stainless steel were examined, and it was shown that the bend ductility was caused by a combination of high hardness of the titanium material immediately adjacent to the joint interface, the presence of unrelieved residual strain at the joint interfaces, and intermetallic phases formed during the welding operation.
Journal ArticleDOI

Improved mechanical properties in dissimilar Ti-AISI 304L joints

TL;DR: In this paper, the effect of low temperature post weld heat treatment on the tensile strength and bend test properties of dissimilar friction welds between titanium and AISI 304L stainless steel joints is investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mechanical properties of titanium-5083 aluminium alloy friction joints

TL;DR: In this article, the influence offriction welding and post-weld heat treatment on the tensile strength and metallurgical properties of the dissimilar friction joints between commercially pure titanium and type 5083 aluminium alloy base materials was investigated.
Journal ArticleDOI

Influence of silicon in aluminium on the mechanical properties of titanium/aluminium friction joints

TL;DR: In this article, the influence of post-weld heat treatment and residual silicon in aluminium on the mechanical properties of dissimilar friction joints between titanium and aluminium was investigated, and it was suggested that silicon segregation retards Al3Ti formation by acting as a barrier to titanium and aluminum diffusion at the joint interface.
Journal ArticleDOI

Joining phenomena and joint strength of friction welded joint between pure aluminium and low carbon steel

TL;DR: In this article, the authors describe the joining phenomena and joint strength of friction welded joints between pure aluminium (P-Al) and low carbon steel friction welds, and they show that P-Al transferred to the half radius region of the weld interface on the lower carbon steel side and then it transferred toward the entire weld interface.
