Comparative Effects of Direct Cadmium Contamination on Gene Expression in Gills, Liver, Skeletal Muscles and Brain of the Zebrafish ( Danio rerio )

TL;DR: Surprisingly, mt1 and c-jun were the only genes displaying a differential induction after 21 days in liver, although this organ accumulated the highest cadmium concentration, and in brain, only mt1, mt2 andc-jun genes were up-regulated after21 days.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interspecific comparison of cadmium and zinc contamination in the organs of four fish species along a polymetallic pollution gradient (Lot River, France)

TL;DR: This study shows that the trophic habits can explain the interspecific differences in Cd bioaccumulation, and indicates a very strong Cd contamination in fish collected downstream from the metal source.
Journal ArticleDOI

Interaction between zinc and freshwater and marine diatom species: Surface complexation and Zn isotope fractionation

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors used a multicollector ICP MS to construct a surface complexation model for Zn binding by diatom surfaces that postulates the constant capacitance of the electric double layer and considers Zn complexation with carboxylate and silanol groups.
Journal ArticleDOI

Gold-mining activities and mercury contamination of native amerindian communities in French Guiana: key role of fish in dietary uptake.

TL;DR: A study was conducted in the Wayana community to quantify mercury exposure of native Amerindians in French Guiana in 1997 and found high levels of mercury in the Tournaisian population.
