Journal ArticleDOI

Overexpression of metallothionein confers resistance to anticancer drugs.

TL;DR: Tumor cell lines with acquired resistance to the antineoplastic agent cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II) overexpressed metallothionein and demonstrated cross-resistance to alkylating agents such as chlorambucil and melphalan.
Journal ArticleDOI

The potential of protein kinase C as a target for anticancer treatment

TL;DR: A complete understanding of the PKC signal transduction pathway is obligatory for the selective destruction of tumor tissue by exploiting PKC as either a target or a modulator of cancer chemotherapeutic agents.
Journal ArticleDOI

Involvement of protein kinase C in phorbol ester-induced sensitization of HeLa cells to cis-diamminedichloroplatinum(II).

TL;DR: Activation of protein kinase C by TPA appears to be necessary but not sufficient for cellular sensitization to CP, as the increase in platinum content caused by a 24-h pretreatment with PDBu was associated with a concentration- and time-dependent increase in cellular platinum content.
Journal ArticleDOI

A hypothesis regarding the protective role of metallothioneins against the toxicity of DNA interactive anticancer drugs

TL;DR: The proposition that intracellular metallothioneins may have a role in determining the toxicity of anticancer agents to non-malignant tissues is discussed.
