The impacts of inorganic nitrogen application on mineralization of 14C-labelled maize and glucose, and on priming effect in saline alkaline soil

TL;DR: In this article, the importance of N availability on decomposition of organic material was investigated in saline alkaline soil of the former lake Texcoco, where uniformly labelled 14 C-maize (MAI-treatment) and glucose (GLU-treatment), with or without 200 mg NH C 4 K Nk g K1 soil (MAIs treatment and GLU-N treatment, respectively) were added to soils with electrolytic conductivity (EC) 56 dS m K1 (soil A) and 12 dSm K1(soil B
Journal ArticleDOI

Evolutionary and food supply implications of ongoing maize domestication by Mexican campesinos

TL;DR: The evolutionary and food security implications of the scale and scope under which Mexican smallholder family farmers, known as campesinos, produce maize are examined to provide insights about the contributions of smallholder agriculture around the world.
Journal ArticleDOI

Prediction of total fat, fatty acid composition and nutritional parameters in fish fillets using MID-FTIR spectroscopy and chemometrics

TL;DR: In this article, the authors used Fourier transform mid-infrared (MID-FTIR) spectroscopy coupled with partial least square algorithm (PLS-1) to predict total fat, fatty acid composition, and nutritional parameters as content of omega-3/100g of fish, and fish lipid quality index (FLQ index) of Atlantic bluefin tuna, crevalle jack, and Atlantic Spanish mackerel chilled fillets.
Journal ArticleDOI

Differences in food web structure of mangroves and freshwater marshes: evidence from stable isotope studies in the Southern Gulf of Mexico

TL;DR: In this paper, the authors compared the food web structure of a fringing mangrove-seagrass habitat and three fluvio-lagoons with marsh-eelgrass and mangroves-bare sediments during a dry season in Terminos Lagoon and Centla Wetlands, Southern Gulf of Mexico.
Journal ArticleDOI

Mineralization of 14C-labelled maize in alkaline saline soils

TL;DR: In this paper, uniform labeled [14C] maize and its neutral detergent fiber (NDF) fraction, mainly containing cellulose and hemi-cellulose, were added to these soils to investigate dynamics of C and N and the importance of the NDF fraction.
