Pleurotus fruiting bodies contain the inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme a reductase-lovastatin
TL;DR: In the fruiting bodies of the fungus Pleurotus ostreatus, a competitive inhibitor of 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-coenzyme A reductase-lovastatin was found and lovastatin determined in the vegetative mycelium, in the primordia, as well as in different parts of sporocarps of different sizes.
Journal ArticleDOI
Screening fungi for the production of an inhibitor of HMG CoA reductase: Production of mevinolin by the fungi of the genus Pleurotus
TL;DR: F fungi of the basidiomycetous genus Pleurotus, especially species P. ostreatus, P. saca and P. sapidus, are an as yet unknown but promising source of the hypocholesterolaemic agent.
Journal ArticleDOI
High-performance liquid chromatographic analysis of mevinolin as mevinolinic acid in fermentation broths☆
TL;DR: In this paper, a liquid chromatographic analysis of mevinolin in fermentation broth was performed after addition of acid and extraction with methanol using a mobile phase at pH 3.0.
Journal ArticleDOI
Submerged production of pectolytic enzymes by Aspergillus niger: effect of different aeration/agitation regimes
TL;DR: Redox potential and pH values proved to be valuable indicators of the initiation and end of enzyme synthesis in the production of a pectolytic enzyme complex in a 10-l strirred tank bioreactor using Aspergillus niger mutant A 138.
Journal ArticleDOI
Pleurotus fungi produce mevinolin, an inhibitor of HMG CoA reductase
TL;DR: Fungi of the genus Pleurotus were shown to produce the 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA reductase inhibitor mevinolin, which was confirmed by thin layer chromatography, high pressure liquid chromatography and mass spectroscopy.
