Journal ArticleDOI
Siberian gas venting and the end-Permian environmental crisis
Henrik Svensen,Sverre Planke,Alexander G. Polozov,Alexander G. Polozov,Norbert Schmidbauer,Fernando Corfu,Yuri Podladchikov,Bjørn Jamtveit +7 more
TL;DR: In this paper, the authors show that heating of Tunguska Basin sediments by ascending magma played a key role in triggering the end-Permian environmental crisis.
Journal ArticleDOI
Extremely reducing conditions reached during basaltic intrusion in organic matter-bearing sediments
Giada Iacono-Marziano,Fabrice Gaillard,Bruno Scaillet,Alexander G. Polozov,Virginie Marécal,Michel Pirre,Nicholas Arndt +6 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors use thermodynamic calculations to show that high-temperature interaction between magma and organic matter can lead to a dramatic reduction of the magma redox state, and significant departure from that of the original source.
Journal ArticleDOI
The onset of flood volcanism in the north-western part of the Siberian Traps: Explosive volcanism versus effusive lava flows
Dougal A. Jerram,Dougal A. Jerram,Henrik Svensen,Sverre Planke,Alexander G. Polozov,Alexander G. Polozov,Trond H. Torsvik,Trond H. Torsvik +7 more
TL;DR: In this article, the authors show that tuffs are virtually absent along a 150 km long transect along the Dyupkun lake and Kureika river, even though tuff is shown on available geological maps and the main thicknesses of explosive tuff, up to 700m, are located in the central and southern parts of the province where the LIP erupted through thick Cambrian salt and carbonate sequences.
Journal ArticleDOI
The Main Pulse of the Siberian Traps Expanded in Size and Composition
Lars Eivind Augland,Viktor V. Ryabov,Valery A. Vernikovsky,Valery A. Vernikovsky,Sverre Planke,Alexander G. Polozov,Sara Callegaro,Dougal A. Jerram,Henrik Svensen +8 more
TL;DR: The first high precision U-Pb zircon geochronology from two alkaline ultramafic-felsic layered intrusive complexes from Taimyr is reported, showing synchronicity between these and the main Siberian Traps (sub)volcanic pulse, and the presence of a second Dinerian-Smithian pulse.
Journal ArticleDOI
The basalt pipes of the Tunguska Basin (Siberia, Russia): High temperature processes and volatile degassing into the end-Permian atmosphere
Alexander G. Polozov,Henrik Svensen,Sverre Planke,Svetlana Grishina,Kirsten E. Fristad,Dougal A. Jerram +5 more
TL;DR: In this paper, a detailed study of the breccias in the Sholokhovsk basalt pipe located within the Nepa potash deposit in the Tunguska Basin, Siberia, Russia (about N 59° and E 107°) was conducted.
