Journal ArticleDOI
Differences between banded thickets (tiger bush) at two sites in West Africa.
TL;DR: The overall periodicity of thickets, the woody flora and the dominant species Combretum micranthum were similar at the two sites, but thicket spacing, thicket/inter-thicket contrast and upslope/downslope floristic asymmetry of the thickets were higher in the less favourable site.
Journal ArticleDOI
Changing systems and changing landscapes: Measuring and interpreting land use transformation in African drylands
TL;DR: In this paper, the linkages between global and policy drivers of land use on the one hand, and land cover data on the other are explored in four dryland areas (Machakos/Makueni Districts in Kenya; Maradi Department in Niger; Diourbel Region in Senegal; the Kano Close- Settled Zone in Nigeria).
Journal ArticleDOI
Ecologie du paysage: cibler la configuration et l’échelle spatiale.
Jan Bogaert,Ali Mahamane +1 more
TL;DR: Landscape ecology analyzes the spatial pattern of landscapes, as well as their functioning, qualities, functions, and dynamics in space and time as discussed by the authors, and the relationship between the spatialpattern of the landscape and the concept of heterogeneity is also put forward, since heterogeneity is considered a crucial characteristic for landscape functioning.
Journal ArticleDOI
Building a field- and model-based climatology of local water and energy cycles in the cultivated Sahel - annual budgets and seasonality
C. Velluet,C. Velluet,Jérôme Demarty,Bernard Cappelaere,Isabelle Braud,Hassane Bil-Assanou Issoufou,Nicolas Boulain,David Ramier,I. Mainassara,I. Mainassara,G. Charvet,Marie Boucher,J. P. Chazarin,M. TL;DR: In this article, the authors provided estimates of long-term average annual budgets and seasonal cycles for two main land use types of the cultivated Sahelian belt: rainfed millet crop and fallow bush.
Journal ArticleDOI
