Journal ArticleDOI
Destructive grazing, epiphytism, and disease: the dynamics of sea urchin - kelp interactions in Nova Scotia
TL;DR: The rate of advance of a front was related to the biomass of urchins; fronts did not advance below a threshold biomass of ~2 kg·m-2.25 m2 at both a wave-exposed site and a sheltered site in Nova Scotia over 3.5 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Behaviours caregivers use to determine pain in non-verbal, cognitively impaired individuals
TL;DR: The checklist has excellent content validity and will be useful for caregivers of cognitively‐impaired, non‐verbal individuals to report on pain behaviours and further research is needed to additionally assess its validity and sensitivity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Recurrent outbreaks of disease in sea urchins Strongylocentrotus droebachiensis in Nova Scotia: evidence for a link with large-scale meteorologic and oceanographic events
TL;DR: These observations suggest that large-scale oceanographic and meteorologic processes may play a role in triggering epizootics by transporting the infective agent (if P. invadens is an exotic species) and/or creating environmental conditions conducive to the propagation of the disease.
Journal ArticleDOI
Survival analysis of tethered juvenile sea scallops Placopecten magellanicus in field experiments: effects of predators, scallop size and density, site and season
Myriam A. Barbeau,Robert Eric Scheibling,Bruce G. Hatcher,Lawrence H. Taylor,Allan W. Hennigar +4 more
TL;DR: Options for minimizing predation of scallops by crabs and sea stars in bottom culture operations are suggested.
Journal ArticleDOI
Perspectives of Canadian Stakeholders on Criteria for Appropriateness for Total Joint Arthroplasty in Patients With Hip and Knee Osteoarthritis.
Gillian A. Hawker,Eric Bohm,Barbara Conner-Spady,Carolyn De Coster,Michael J. Dunbar,Allan W. Hennigar,Lynda Loucks,Deborah A. Marshall,Marie-Pascale Pomey,Claudia Sanmartin,Tom Noseworthy +10 more
TL;DR: As rates of total joint arthroplasty for osteoarthritis rise, there is a need to ensure appropriate use and criteria for appropriate use of TJA is developed.
