Deposits of clastic carbonate-dominated (calciclastic) sedimentary slope systems in the rock record have been identified mostly as linearly-consistent carbonate apron deposits, even though most ancient clastic carbonate slope deposits fit the submarine fan systems better. Calciclastic submarine fans are consequently rarely described and are poorly understood. Subsequently, very little is known especially in mud-dominated calciclastic submarine fan systems. Presented in this study are a sedimentological core and petrographic characterisation of samples from eleven boreholes from the Lower Carboniferous of Bowland Basin (Northwest England) that reveals a >250 m thick calciturbidite complex deposited in a calciclastic submarine fan setting. Seven facies are recognised from core and thin section characterisation and are grouped into three carbonate turbidite sequences. They include: 1) Calciturbidites, comprising mostly of highto low-density, wavy-laminated bioclast-rich facies; 2) low-density densite mudstones which are characterised by planar laminated and unlaminated muddominated facies; and 3) Calcidebrites which are muddy or hyper-concentrated debrisflow deposits occurring as poorly-sorted, chaotic, mud-supported floatstones. The Self-Organizing Map

Many current neurophysiological, psychophysical, and psychological approaches to vision rest on the idea that when we see, the brain produces an internal representation of the world. The activation of this internal representation is assumed to give rise to the experience of seeing. The problem with this kind of approach is that it leaves unexplained how the existence of such a detailed internal representation might produce visual consciousness. An alternative proposal is made here. We propose that seeing is a way of acting. It is a particular way of exploring the environment. Activity in internal representations does not generate the experience of seeing. The outside world serves as its own, external, representation. The experience of seeing occurs when the organism masters what we call the governing laws of sensorimotor contingency. The advantage of this approach is that it provides a natural and principled way of accounting for visual consciousness, and for the differences in the perceived quality of sensory experience in the different sensory modalities. Several lines of empirical evidence are brought forward in support of the theory, in particular: evidence from experiments in sensorimotor adaptation, visual \"filling in,\" visual stability despite eye movements, change blindness, sensory substitution, and color perception.

The health sciences are, nowadays, one of the major application areas for case-based reasoning (CBR). The paper presents a survey of recent medical CBR systems based on a literature review and an e-mail questionnaire sent to the corresponding authors of the papers where these systems are presented. Some clear trends have been identified, such as multipurpose systems: more than half of the current medical CBR systems address more than one task. Research on CBR in the area is growing, but most of the systems are still prototypes and not available in the market as commercial products. However, many of the projects/systems are intended to be commercialized.

Case-Based Reasoning Systems in the Health Sciences: A Survey of Recent Trends and Developments

This paper introduces a project called iibm (Intelligent Interactions Based on Motion). In this project, we address the question of how to design and develop intelligent software systems controllable by gestures. This work is related to the eld of natural interactions, but we are not only interested in the motion capture issues. We focus on human-computer interaction and we seek to support negotiation of meaning and co-construction of knowledge between the user and the system. The goal is to develop intelligent and adaptive systems easy to use, through gestures, by end users. For that purpose, we exploit the CBR paradigm. CBR enables us to capture users' experiences and to reuse them in order to provide relevant feedback and assistance. This position paper presents the main ideas of our approach and illustrates them with a first experiment made within our test bed environment, with the application iiAnnotate. The paper also discusses the benets and risks of applying our approach to video games.

Intelligent Interactions Based on Motion

Dans une approche systemes complexes de la cognition, nous developpons le concept de
representation emergente et nous proposons un meta-modele (4MER) pour la differenciation de quatre types de
modeles de representations emergentes a travers une decomposition selon deux axes : collectif/individuel et
interieur/exterieur. Les representations emergentes sont des systemes complexes adaptatifs a part entiere et se
trouvent a l’interieur d’un second systeme complexe plus robuste. Deux aspects croises caracterisent chaque type
de representations emergentes. Dans la composition individuel/interieur, les representations emergentes sont : (i)
des symboles manipules par l’agent et (ii) causales, actives dans le guidage du systeme cognitif vers des formes
optimales. Dans la composition collectif/interieur les representations emergentes sont : (i) de sous-organisations
d’agent emergentes, stables et non-reactives aux changements environnementaux et (ii) causales, actives dans le
guidage du systeme cognitif vers des formes optimales. Dans la composition individuel/exterieur les
representations emergentes sont : (i) des symboles manipules par l’agent et (ii) dans une relation semiotique (i.e.,
elles re-presentent un objet exterieur). Dans la composition collectif/exterieur les representations emergentes
sont : (i) des groupes emergents et stables d’agent et (ii) dans une relation semiotique. Un systeme cognitif
artificiel integral est vu dans le couplage des modeles des differents types de representations emergentes.

L'Approche Systèmes Complexes de la Cognition : Vers un Système Cognitif Artificiel Intégral

This paper introduces BeGoood, a generic system for man- aging non-regression tests on knowledge-bases. BeGoood is a system al- lowing to define test plans in order to monitor the evolution of knowledge- bases. Any system answering queries by providing results in the form of set of strings can be tested with BeGoood. BeGoood has been devel- oped following a REST architecture and is independent of any applica- tion domain. This paper describes the architecture of the system and gives a use case to illustrate how BeGoood is able to manage a collab- orative knowledge evolution in the framework of a case-based reasoning system.

Collaborative Knowledge Acquisition under Control of a Non-Regression Test System

Cet article traite du raisonnement a partir de l’experience tracee (RaPET), un paradigme de raisonnement qui
exploite les traces d’interaction laissees par les utilisateurs dans des environnements numeriques. Dans le RaPET, les
traces d’interaction permettent de conserver les experiences de resolution de probleme des utilisateurs « en contexte »,
leur reutilisation s’en trouve donc facilitee. Par ailleurs, les traces d’interaction peuvent etre utilisees comme des
sources de connaissances pour decouvrir d’autres connaissances utiles au processus de raisonnement. Ce papier decrit
les principes du RaPET et propose une architecture generale pour le developpement des applications a base de traces.
Nous mettons en particulier l’accent sur l’articulation entre le RaPET et les systemes a base de traces (SBT) dans le
contexte du developpement d’outils d’assistance aux utilisateurs. Pour cela, nous decrivons les connaissances et les
modeles de connaissances impliques dans les tâches de raisonnement. Nous montrons les avantages que presente
l’utilisation des traces comme des conteneurs de connaissances pour la reutilisation de l’experience. Nous discutons
egalement des questions liees a l’ingenierie des connaissances dynamiques et au role du RaPET au regard de cette
problematique. Enfin, nous presentons un rapide etat des lieux des travaux developpes dans ce contexte et nous
proposons un plan de travail pour le RaPET, afin d’identifier « ce qu’il reste a faire ». Nous montrons egalement
pourquoi le RaPET peut tirer parti de la dynamique actuelle des developpements autour des traces tout en apportant des
ameliorations aux applications a base de traces.
