Green synthesis of silver nanoparticles using Azadirachta indica aqueous leaf extract

IT may occasion some surprise to those men of science who are ill-acquainted with India, and who so frequently express the view that Governments are unappreciative of the importance of science to learn that as far back as 1886 the Government of India arranged for Dr. George (later Sir George) Watt, professor of botany in the Presidency College, Calcutta, to prepare a "Dictionary of the Economic Products of India". The six volumes of this standard work were published during the years 1889-99. In 1908 Sir George Watt published a condensed version, "The Commercial Products of India". Whatever the defects of these 'dictionaries', they have been of inestimable value to all interested in Indian natural products. Prospects in the design of bio-inspired MNMs for novel applications are also discussed.

Bio-inspired synthesis of metal nanomaterials and applications

In recent years, nanoscience and nanotechnology have emerged as a new area of fundamental science and are receiving global attention due to their extensive applications. Conventionally nanoparticles were manufactured by physical and chemical techniques. The recent development and implementation of new technologies have led to a new trend, the nano-revolution unfolding the role of plants in bio- and green synthesis of nanoparticles which seems to have drawn a quite unequivocal attention to the synthesis of stable nanoparticles. Although nanoparticles can be synthesized through many conventional methods, biological route of the synthesis is more competent than the physical and chemical techniques. Biologically synthesized nanoparticles have enjoyed an upsurge of applications in various sectors. Hence, the present study envisions biosynthesis of nanoparticles from plants which are emerging as nanofactories. Hence, the present review summarizes the literature reported thus far and envisions plants as emerging sources of nanofactories along with applications, the mechanism behind phytosynthesis of nanoparticles and the mechanism of antibacterial action of nanoparticles.

An efficient regeneration method via shoot tip explant has been developed for Jatropha curcas, which is a medicinally as well as economically important plant Shoot tips were proliferated on MS medium incorporated with BAP (20 mg l−1) and IAA (05 mg l−1) along with adenine sulphate, glutamine and activated charcoal In vitro produced shoots were induced to root on IBA (05–50 mg l−1) added to half strength MS medium The highest frequency of root induction was on the medium with 30 mg l−1 IBA Regenerated plantlets were successfully transferred to field after initial acclimatization

Zingiber Officinale is a common condiment for various foods and beverag es and a long history of important Traditional Medicine herb for the treatment of stom ach disorders . The constituents present in ginger have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activities. The sdeals with antimicrobial activity of Zingiber Officinale (ZO) extract and their phytochemical composition. Phytoc hemical screening revealed the presence of alkaloid s, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, terpenoid and phlobotannins i n both the extracts. The GO extracts were obtained by sokhlet apparatus and their chemical profile was determined through GC and GC-MS analysis resulted in the identification of 40 compounds in methanolic and 32 compounds in e thanolic extract. Their antimicrobial activity was tested against nine microorganisms that cause various dise ases in human. Zingiber extracts showed selective antimicrobial activities.

Traditional systems of medicine such as Ayurvedic, Uninai, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) have been in practice in a great account. Owing to population rise, inadequate supply of drugs, prohibitive cost of treatments, side effects of several allopathic drugs and development of resistance to currently used drugs for diseases have led to increased emphasis on the use of plant materials as a source of medicines for a wide variety of human ailments as witnessed by the use of folk medicines in the present scenario. This review article describes the prominence of a medicinal plant Tinospora cordifolia in therapeutics such as use of crude extract of plant for the amelioration of various diseases, morphology, growth constraints, biochemical composition, biological activities, research work done, projects sanctioned to this plant species and the future prospects of this important neglected plant species for research in the field of plant tissue culture, natural products and nano-biotechnology.
