Sediment distribution pattern in the Rias Baixas (NW Spain): main facies and hydrodynamic dependence

TL;DR: The analysis of over seven hundred samples of sediments have made it possible to define a detailed distribution of seabed surface sediment properties like grain size, carbonate and organic matter content of the rias of Vigo, Pontevedra and Arousa (NW Spain).
Journal ArticleDOI

Early diagenesis of magnetic minerals in marine transitional environments: geochemical signatures of hydrodynamic forcing

TL;DR: The low-field magnetic susceptibility ( χ ) of surficial sediments from the Ria de Pontevedra (NW Spain) shows a characteristic, hydrodynamically driven textural control, where diamagnetic sandy bioclastic carbonates occur toward the coastline, leaving the finer muddy sediments to be deposited in the central and deeper areas of the ria as discussed by the authors.
Journal ArticleDOI

Formation, exposure, and evolution of a high-latitude beachrock in the intertidal zone of the Corrubedo complex (Ria de Arousa, Galicia, NW Spain)

TL;DR: In this article, the authors focus on the petrological characterization and sedimentological evolution of a beachrock that was exhumed during an exceptional storm in the winter of 2001 in the intertidal zone of a high-energy beach.
Journal ArticleDOI

A morphological model of the beach profile integrating wave and tidal influences

TL;DR: In this paper, a morphological model capable of predicting the beach profile behavior under different wave and tide conditions is proposed based on the concept of the two-section equilibrium beach profile, and has been validated with field and laboratory data.
