Journal ArticleDOI
An overview on the development of a bio-artificial pancreas as a treatment of insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
TL;DR: This paper presents the concept and most of the research undertaken all over the world for the development of a bio‐artificial pancreas (BAP) device over the last 30 years.
Journal ArticleDOI
Development of a polysulfone hollow fiber vascular bio-artificial pancreas device for in vitro studies.
Ana Silva,Marília Mateus +1 more
TL;DR: A system for vascular hollow fiber bio-artificial pancreas development, optimization and in vitro testing was implemented and operated in a simple and fully described manner, allowing other researchers to test a variety of experimental conditions.
Journal ArticleDOI
Definition of a condition-based model for natural stone claddings
TL;DR: In this paper, a condition-based maintenance model, based on Petri nets, is used to analyse the influence of alternative maintenance strategies on the overall degradation of natural stone claddings, and a simplified multi-criteria analysis is carried out to evaluate the economic impact of each maintenance strategy in comparison with the increased durability achieved through its adoption.
Journal ArticleDOI
Micro-analytical GO/HRP bioreactor for glucose determination and bioprocess monitoring.
V. Vojinović,Cecília R.C. Calado,Ana Silva,Marília Mateus,Joaquim M. S. Cabral,Luís P. Fonseca +5 more
TL;DR: A bi-enzymatic micro-analytical bioreactor integrated in a FIA system for glucose measurements is described, which has excellent shelf life, and a very high operational stability that was demonstrated through extensive usage for glucose determinations over 1 year period during which the column retained almost all of its activity.
Journal ArticleDOI
Stochastic Petri net-based modelling of the durability of renderings
TL;DR: The use of Petri Nets shows to be more accurate than a more traditional approach based on Markov Chains, but also allows developing future research to consider different environmental conditions, maintenance actions or inspections, amongst other aspects of life-cycle analysis of existing assets.
